Let me be clear STOOPS and I am dead serious not delusional. I am not saying he would take the job if ever offered but he would be the best fit. What aggrivates me is so many on here want to go with a sexy pick but i say duplicate the bammers criteria and get similar results. Many on here would rather experiment with NFL or college coaches that dont have SEC ties or experience. WHY?? are we not LSU. Our job is arguably one of the best in the country. We should not automatically dismiss going after another prominent programs coach.

BTW this is all a hypo......Miles IMO is a very good coach and will be here at least 2 more years BUT I think its OK to have this discussion in light of RR at Michigans recent turmoils.

There is only a handful of coaches who can recruit on the level that Miles does

Even though greatly improving Michigan State and Okie State's recruiting bases, where did Saban or Miles exhibit their co-#1 signing class prowess pre-LSU and pre-LSU/Bama?

The Stockholm faction always forget the platforms, when formulating the equation.

Saban, top three NCAA HC, Miles a top ten to fifteen NCAA HC..but before the platforms came calling..

Until given the keys to the kingdom, how do we know what potential HCs are capable of, in terms of comparing them vs Saban and Miles, both of whom were twenty-something-and-twenty-something HCs at 2nd-in-state-U, where both couldn't win a bowl game to save their lives, for the most part, despite being hailed for taking down Big U once in a while for state bragging rights. Getting some hype for coaching up and improving ole 2nd-In-State's recruiting base. Granted 'twas earned in the Big-10 and Big-12.

Saban Pre-LSU Resume
1990 Toledo 9–2 7–1 1st —
Toledo: 9–2 7–1
Michigan State Spartans (Big Ten Conference) (1995–1999)
1995 Michigan State 6–5–1 4–3–1 5th L Independence — —
1996 Michigan State 6–6 5–3 5th L Sun — —
1997 Michigan State 7–5 4–4 6th L Aloha — —
1998 Michigan State 6–6 4–4 6th — —
1999‡ Michigan State 9–2 6–2 2nd 7 7
Michigan State: 34–24–1 23–16–1 0-3 Bowl Record

Les Miles Pre-LSU Resume
2001 Okla State 4–7 2-6 5th South
2002 Okla State 8–5 5–3 4th South
2003 Okla State 9–4 5–3 3rd South
2004 Okla State 7–5 4–4 5th South
Okla State:28–21 16–16 1-2 Bowl Record

Check Jim Tressell's Youngstown State title resume, which compares to Brian Kelly and Chris Petersen's works, before OSU came calling for him.

Sarkisian and Harbaugh and Sumlin are too green, but like other stars, you can just see some guys futures before their pinnacle days come..their talents shine brightly!

Hey, if LSU came open, and Stoops was ready to leave OU, I'd have him in the top five of potentials, be him a smug @sshole or not, or OOC and Red River and Bowl slides be damned.

Just so ya know I like Peterson at #2

Make no mistake Stoops at LSU would be a bad mofo. Do you remember his D in the SEC. It was bad arse.

The game changes, and has greatly since the late nineties and early '00s in the SEC.

Big Game Bob isn't adjusting as well, Lil Nicky is! Stoops OU defenses have blown the last years, get gashed hard for major yardage. Despite similar and comparable results against Fla late last year.

I think the greatest thing LSU could give Stoops is a fresh start to try stop his recent slide in OOC and Top 25 Showdowns. I just see no interest, unless OU POs him somehow.

LSU was a starmaker for Saban and Miles, and will probably once again be such for a Petersen, Kelly, Strong, Sumlin, Sarkisian, etc..of whomever if/when that day comes.

I'd like LSU's next hire to have a true specialty. I prefer defense, but I'll take an offensive guy as well. Most of the best coaches bring something extra to one side of the ball. Miles is an offensive coach, but I don't think that qualifies him considering LSU's offensive woes.

Stoops definately brings defense to the table, like Saban. Meyer brought his offense to UF. Most of the up and comers have something special to bring.

What is different about Saban today from the Saban that left here in 2004?

nothing other than he was an utter failure with the Dolphins and made a complete fool out of himself when he lied about his intentions and then quit leaving his team 'under the bus.'
yeah...he's just the kind of unprincipled jackass we want running LSU's football program. bama made just as many mistakes as we did saturday last...only difference is we got called for them. his team has been very average and if LSU also had an off week...we beat his punk arse.

I do agree with this however I think LSU would be personally better hiring a proven name to carry LSU forward like bama did with $abun. Dont get me wrong its my belief that bama is trying to buy a NC when they dumped money in $abun lap but their is no denying the recent results. It has upped the ante not just for LSU but all the D1 schools as well.

Like I said Stoops probably would not take the job but I bet he would think about it if approached.

If 8-0 in the SEC last season is "very average" wtf is Les Miles 3-5 SEC record last year with two teams dropping 50+ on him?

Brian Kelly---Fad coach. I think we have as good as we can realistically get. Probably only 2 that I'd want but they are both unrealistic choices.

Saban and Emmert did help change the culture. The good ole boy Louisiana acceptance of mediocrity, Joe Dean hiring "what we can get since we're only LSU" mentality. Unfortunately it's back now. You can tell the demeanor and perspective people have.
