this board wanted to fire O after a few games after the best season the program ever had

The stature and recent prior history of the football program before Orgeron was hired was far different than that of the basketball before Wade was hired.

Orgeron did not take over a traditionally average program that had bottomed out prior to his arrival. LSU had played for a National Championship just 6 years before O's first full season and had averaged 9 wins per season for two decades. Wade took over a program that was coming off a last place finish in the SEC with a program that had just compiled its worst conference performance in the history of the program.

To his credit, Orgeron did what we all hoped he might do. He led an already very good program to an elite status (2019). He then immediately crashed it the following season to the lowest point in 20 years. Given that the 2019 season was the significant outlier of Ed's HC career vs. the .500 season in 2020, there was reason for concern he might be regressing to the mean (that proved to be valid in 2021)

Wade on the other hand led LSU to its best regular season in almost 40 years in the second season he was at LSU. Given the state of each program when each guy took over, I think Wade probably earned a little more rope than O

LSU basketball is a different animal than football or baseball. It’s the only one of the three big sports that the state doesn’t produce a ton of talent. There are exceptions to this every few years and you HAVE to get those guys. Something the last two coaches were not good at.

You do realize football and basketball are completely different sports right? Not sure why you keep bringing up football.

keep bringing it up? it is about our fans wanting to fire coaches...it proves a point. But yeh it's pretty stupid to say injuries only matter in one sport not both right?

seemed to be natural development with experience that we see with almost all athletes. Can you name some more? Days? is he a much better player than 2 years ago bc of coaching or natural development...if so in what ways has he been developed? Our 2 best players are transfers.

I'll take a final four over a sec championship every day of the week. So now, not the best in 40 years in my book.

You know how I know you dont even watch basketball? Because you asked a question like this

If we're talking non-freshmen who went to NBA, here's a good list:

Tari Eason
Darius Days
Eric Gaines
Javonte Smart
Trendon Watford
Skylar Mays
Emmitt Williams
Tremont Waters
Kavell Bigby-Williams

Wade is in year 5. We can stop grading him on a rookie scale. Its 100% his program and built his way.

And how did Tari Eason do before he got here?

Also I figured you were just asking a BS question about who developed under Wade because you just pass off anyone getting better to them "oh its just natural progression"

If he is doing that good of a job then we should be advancing deep at least once...I'm wide open to Wade...I'm just not on board with being satisfied with JUST making the trny. The fact that we are making the trny that much says a lot about the talent...so he needs to make some runs soon. I always feel like we have the weakest coach on the bench in terms of adjustments etc. I would love to be pleasantly surprised this year.

Some of you are so impatient

This is only the 3rd time we've been in the tourney under Wade and the 2nd time he'll actually get to coach in it. We've already made the S16 in 1 of the 2 previous tournaments which was a nice tourney for us. Not sure why some of you want him gone so bad you put these ultimatums on him where I swear some of you forgot just how bad the program was the last 2.5 decades prior to Wade. But hey, even if we're consistently in the tourney under him if in 2 more years we dont make the F4 can him!

Who wasn't highly touted of those guys?

2 were transfers

Gaines...how has he developed...better shooter? good decision maker?

Sorry...elite 8 is...at least to me. Besides, he wasn't even on the bench. That was year 2, to all of those who say it takes time. I can't wait to be wrong this year, seriously.
