Starting lineup of

Bigby-Williams
Naz
Emmitt
Smart
Waters

SICK....

Then come off the bench with

Sims
Rachal
Taylor
Days
Edwards
Mays

We aren’t deep at the 5 so Bigby-Williams and Naz are going to have to stay out of foul trouble. Probably going to need one of them on the court at all times

Expectation: Top 4 in the SEC and Sweet 16! Anymore better, give WW a blank check and let him fill it out!

I just don’t get why people are so high on this guy. I watched him play in the tourney with Oregon for two years and he was a non factor. I think this board is setting themselves up for disappointment with this guy.

Expecting anything close to what Thomas did is foolish. No knock on KBW, but there is a reason why Thomas was a top 5 pick.

I would like to see a top 5 finish in the SEC and a birth in the Dance.

Certainly an NIT bid would be expected at minimum.

Wade has to use next season to show he is building something here at LSU

Wasn't it fun to watch a coach that has such lofty eventual expectations still get so pumped up for the games we had at the end of this year? I can't wait to see what he can do as the talent level rises.

The tournament can be such a crap shoot. My very early and minimum expectations I guess would be a top 4 SEC finish, NCAA tournament berth and at least one tourney win.

THIS...all of this. As many have pointed out, this is one of the most talented rosters (on paper at this point) that LSU has ever had; and especially that Wade has ever coached anywhere. But we need to still remember that most of the top line talent will be young and inexperienced and that is a challenge for any coach to motivate and develop it properly. Wade, while he seems to have all the makings of one of the next great coaches, he is still young himself and short on experience. He will have some growing lessons too with this type of roster.

But I think it is reasonable to see a top 5 finish in conference, make the tournament, and win 1-2 games. Anymore than that, and you generally need to have some things fall your way with the way the tournament normally goes.

Nobody is expecting him to be a 15pt/11reb/4blk a game type of player. His main reason for being in the game is to help rebounding and protect the rim which we struggled mightily with last season. He will probably only play about 20 maybe 25 minutes a game at best with heavy rotation going on in the front court (Bigby-Williams,Reid, Williams, Days, Rachal, Sims). He is simply expected to be an efficient player on the floor for the time he will see in the rebounding and rim protecting dept, which is EXACTLY the reason he was JUCO player of the year coming out of there (insane rebounding and block rate).

I would expect Bigby-Williams to be somewhere around 6pts/6-7reb/2blk a game on average, but again, at 20-25 minutes a game, that's really efficient, especially the rebounding because we will have a lot of good rebounders on the floor next season.

Also, he only played 1 year at Oregon, not 2. He was stuck behind some really talented bigs there which in turn limited his playing time, he never got play much there which was his frustration and reason for transfer.

ETA: What Thunder said!

Because the guy was national JUCO POY before going to Oregon. Couple that with the fact he has had a year to develop under Wade and Benford already; and just look to Reath with what they are capable of doing in that department. I think anyone would agree that KBW is just as good, and likely better of a talent than Reath.

I don’t believe anyone is expecting the guy to be our MVP or even close to it. Nor is anyone expecting to provide a ton of offensive production; we have several other guys for that. The excitement is for what he can bring on the defensive side of the ball as an inside enforcer who can match up with post players, make guards think twice about driving to the basket, and rebound. All things that we haven’t really had in a few years on a consistent and quality basis.

Sweet 16 is always difficult - 2 victories in the tournament - but it is doable for this team. I'd be very happy with getting to the Sweet 16 and then putting up a good fight, assuming we are playing a higher-ranked team.

Before Simmons' only year, I expected the team to make it to the Elite 8. That was disappointing.

...but hopefully I’m wrong.

If you are expecting him to be an All-SEC player, then yes. But, I don't think anyone is expecting him to ascend to a top 5 pick in the draft. But it's not out of the question to expect him to play a similar role as Thomas did on the 05-06. He's a Thomas-like player in that Thomas was not a guy who was very skilled on the offensive end. He got most of his points on put-backs and dunks. But, he was a big time presence on the defensive end. That's really all you hope to get out of Bigby-Williams and I think he can provide that. LSU isn't going to run their offense through him, but I don't think it is unreasonable to think that if he plays 25-30 minutes per game he could get 8-10 ppg; 6-8 rbg; and 2 blocks. Thomas's numbers in 06 were 12/9/3 (Jordan Mickey eclipsed all of those)

This is a big key factor here, look how much Epps and Reath improved under Wade in their senior seasons, KBW will be a 5th year senior now, he's been around the block, and while his playing time has been limited in D1 so far, he should progress and be a solid piece to the team this year. He's a great tone setter on the defensive end of the court.

KBW wont ever be great on this level, but Wade will certainly get efficient production out of him much like he ended up doing with Epps and Reath. Big difference being his strengths were kind of Epps and Reath's weaknesses.

This team definitely has NC potential. I there were no "one and done's" and they had a chance to grow together and develop their skills over time, I have no doubt they would win a NC.

The teams that have that opportunity, like Villanova, Michigan, Mich St, Wisconsin are the ones that generally show up in the final four. It is hard to beat experience and maturity.

That being said, I think LSU will field a team this fall that has talent to match up with any team in the nation.

A NCAA tourney win at a minimum.

The potential is there for a 3 seed and an elite 8.

A solid tournament team that finishes upper third of the league. No way to know if matchups favor us once you get in tourney. I think 22/23 wins is very doable.

hopefully, finish in the top 6 of the SEC and win an NCAA tournament game or two. anything else would be lagniappe. it's unrealistic to say sweet 16/elite 8 or bust.

I’m glad he was JUCO Player of the year. When he was in the 2017 NCAA Tourney, however, he looked lost. He looks good physically, but I can’t see him contributing a ton. Then again, players do get better. And maybe he has. But I wasn’t impressed with what I saw.

Here were his stat lines in the aforementioned tournament

Iona: 15 minutes, 4 points, 6 boards, 4 fouls

Rhode Island: 13 minutes, 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 fouls

Michigan: 8 minutes, 1 point, 2 boards, 1 assist, 1 foul

Kansas: 8 minutes, 1 point, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 foul

North Carolina: 10 minutes, zero points, 1 rebounds, 1 block

ETA: We will see how it plays out. If he can just rebound and block shots on defense that’s all you really need.
