And just to add, I hate statues of athletes. I just took offense to somebody posting about a former great who really didn't know what he was talking about.

Maravich wasn't on good terms with LSU for a long time and IIRC, didn't want his name on the building since we did fire his dad and all. And Bob Petit goes to damn near every home game. They are both in the top 50 in the NBA.
Oh, and Maravich wouldn't have that record had the SEC been desegregated. There were a few black players and both Pete and Press recruited black athletes hard but unsuccessfully. Bob Petit is the more pressing statue, if we are really in need of more ways to worship athletes.

The OP never said Pettit was better. Just said it could be argued. Read!
To Pettit's credit he is in the NBA Hall of Fame, so he's in LSU's greatest discussion!

I'm trying to remember another former LSU player who has given as much to LSU and failing. No disrespect to Petit or any other former Tiger intended.
Simply put, Shaq is the gold standard by whom all former players should be judged in terms of giving back to his alma mater.

Since we are giving statues to everyone
Exaggerate much?

I myself don't care. I'm fine with there being no statues ever, and I'm fine with every single graduate of LSU getting a statue.

You read Wikipedia and now you know what you're talking about. I'm just curious as to how many of you hold season tickets. How many of you actually go to games. But everybody is basketball guru all of a sudden. When you start making statues for everyone you for one have too many and to lessen the importance of them. Yes Pettit was all time great. What is wrong with just retiring his jersey as I already stated? You are the dumb arse who took my post literally. But since we are stating obvious things off Internet, did you know Chris Jackson is all team leading scorer as freshmen?

Not until Ben voogd gets at least a bathroom named him

There are three players from LSU in the NBA top 100 - Shaq, Pete and Pettit.

Well, the above is no longer necessary with the invention of tv and widespread access to every game, but I understand your point with older players

Phone auto correct, tell me more about the Pistol and segregation

Not sure who Petit is, but Pettit certainly deserves one.

Desegregating LSU was more important to he and his father than people realize, but the league was watered down because the SEC only had a few black athletes. He and his father would say the same. Read his biography. It's a very good book. Not really related to this topic, but a fine troll if I do say so myself.
Regardless, Pete was not on good terms with LSU for a long time when we fired Press. Bob Pettit has always been loyal to LSU and loved LSU and I see him at just about every game. They are both all time greats. Pettit is more worthy of being honored, considering we already named a stadium after Pete and everything I've previously said.
