could have stayed and paid own way. knew he was up against the coach and 8 other OF. can easily go to D1 and be a star player.

I agree Mr Toups hope he does find some playing time somewhere I think he’s got bright future. CPM has hard time being patient with players when he can’t generate a consistent offensive team. Good luck to Wes.

Nothing personal against Nicholls, but I hope he finds a better landing spot. He's better than that for sure.
Yeah okay

Hasty is a guy that could use some summer innings. The only way to get command of his pitches is to actually pitch, and he won't get enough innings at LSU until he starts to show command. Hopefully they can place him on a roster soon. He was supposed to play in the Prospect League, but they shut down for the summer.

Doubt it happens, but I’d love to see him playing in Ruston.

Word is Nicholls will land Toups and CJ Willis. Big get for Nicholls if so. A lot of these smaller college's will get a good shot at building their rosters due to the state of college baseball this coming year.

Any relation to the great Al Toups, local baseball ump?
Holy Crap. He was the worst.

wasn't told to leave. scholarship pulled. too many new kids coming in and he had dang near a full ride. he chose to look elsewhere to get draft stock up. can't blame the kid. one of top picks coming out of high school and coach chooses to sit him with better on base percentage than most of the other OF
surprised he was even on scholarship as CPM loves to pull the TOPS card with the La. based Wes Toups type players. I highly doubt he was on a "dang near full ride" with only 11.7 scholarships, at best he had 25% Baseball + whatever academic aid he qualified for. Also not sure about the "top picks" coming out of HS deal either. The kid is a decent player but not an absolute stud/standout IMO. Either way best of luck to him!

Why the hell wouldn't he? That's a big advantage to LSU, so why do you say it like it's a bad thing to do?

You’re implying this is a bad thing?

No,I'm not. TOPS is a great program especially when it comes to bridging the gap in a partial scholly sport like Baseball. I'm really just questioning the guy claiming Toups was on a "dang near FULL ride" and that money got pulled so he left the program. Maybe he wasn't talking about Baseball full ride but more of a partial baseball + academic= a dang near full ride? Point is I think him leaving here was more than just losing baseball $$ likely valued at 25% at its max. He could have still used the academic portion of his scholly here. IMO, he likely left because he saw a very crowded program and wants to actually play so he is going elsewhere.

TOPS is only for tuition.
So if his tuition was paid for, & LSU used part of the 11.7 scholarships for boarding or books, perhaps it can be interpreted that he was indeed on a full ride, or close to it.

Correct, TOPS accounts for Tuition only which reps around 40% of total cost of school. Baseball has to give minimum of 25% or higher in athletic aide and only 27 players can receive this aide. My point is if CPM pulled Toups scholly then he likely lost just 25% but would have retained his TOPS or any other academic $$ assistance he was receiving. I don't believe Toups was receiving greater than 25% and I doubt he chose to leave LSU over getting 25% athletic scholly pulled. I think he left b/c of the reasons mentioned above in my previous post.

Well you better get your word from somewhere else. CJ Willis is headed to ULL. Still want to roll your eyes just because I said ULL was a better option than Nicholls?
