Tiger stadium is going to be where dreams of a greatest college atmosphere go to die
bullshite. It needs to be fixed no doubt but you're crazy if you believe that.

This simply isn't true. Look at all of the top recruits from the past decade who have gone to other states. Look back to the 90s and all of the guys who went to ND, FSU, Miami, Michigan, etc. There's a really big population in Louisiana that hates LSU or is totally indifferent -- go drive through the 7th ward or Scotlandville and see how many people are wearing Alabama gear. The 4 and 5 star kids we're recruiting largely have no emotional connection to LSU -- their parents didn't go to college, their siblings didn't go to college, and they wouldn't go to college if it weren't for football
I would say you are both wrong. Many players from LA want to go to LSU, but not all. And the ones that don't it's not because of a problem with LSU, some kids just want to get away. Some want to stay at home.

Really hate to ever admit an Aggie got it right.

But this Aggie nailed it...

Every single word of this is true. But every single comment and criticism that followed is also true.

While I would say this is a nice sentiment and ego pumper for us, I DISTINCTLY remember as a young man watching the game roster announcements on CBS and reading off EVERY SINGLE player and his "hometown, LA" byline and being so damn proud that the coach recruited every single player starting the games was FROM LOUISIANA. From LA - not like those heathens at UF or BAMA that had kids from GA and TN and whatnot.

Those games and that coach? Curly Hallman.

I get the point but that was at a time when a lot of the BEST LA talent was going out of state. You cant just get LA talent, you have to get the best LA talent. That is why Nick had to "put a fence around Louisiana" when he got here. If BK can keep our best talent and draw a few national superstars, we will be competitive every year.

There is a little more to it than that. In the 20s and 30s LA was a state full of poor people who didn’t have much to feel good about. This was also the time college football was starting to assume its place in American life. It was Huey Long’s decision to give the people of LA something in which to to feel great pride. He decided to build a great university in Baton Rouge. LSU was built as the people’s university and everybody in the state took pride in it. He realized it needed publicity so he created the Tiger Band and the LSU football team. They became the symbols of the people of LA.
