Let's just say that this is correct....No one will even care because he is the defensive scape goat.
But, Welter is still the worst LB I've seen start at LSU EVER and I've been watching since the late 70s. I'd rather see Thomas Dunson in there.

yep, he just looks different
He and Lacatoure really stand out in the defensive huddle...
Something about the haircuts, maybe?

KB is a frosh?
I don't give a damn if he could recite the playbook in Pig Latin. He is too slow and consistently makes bad reads to play SEC football. There is a quality player behind him putting up the same stats on way way fewer snaps.

Welter did not miss his assignment. Clearly Deion Jones missed the assignment to cover QB on TD run. It is man to man coverage on play with Welter covering running back. The coaches know that Welter is not Lightning quick so they put him on covering the man that would be the slowest to get started. Welter does spend time at the beginning of plays making sure players are in their correct locations, so he has a leadership position.
Either way, Welter is still not a good player, nor is he an Sec caliber LB.

Read (stegs 81) post above.
It's really not about missed assignments with Welter, it's the fact that he lacks the athleticism, and somewhat the instincts, to play the position. There was a similar play in the game where Beckwith shot into the gap and stopped the runner at the line of scrimmage.

If we could put Welter's brain in Debo's body...

then he'd have Debo's body getting stuck on blocks all over the field.

LINK: Film Room
Sole TD: New Mexico State’s only touchdown came on a 79-yard Long Runrun on a keeper from QB Andrew Allen.
The linebackers are at fault here. Deion Jones (top circle) is eyeing the flats, expecting a throw there. Meanwhile, MLB D.J. Welter is fooled on the handoff to the RB. That leaves a whopping hole at the second level (and something we saw often last week against Mississippi State).
We (Tiger Tracks Film Room see link above), kept a new category this week. It’s called “blocked.” We charted players who were blocked out of plays near the ball during successful runs. Alexander was blocked out once. D.J. Welter led the team in “blocked” with three.

Don't let the OP off that easy. The idea that any college football team plays a man-to-man run defense is preposterous. We should simply mock the OP and move on.

Your image doesn't make sense. Debo is covering the flats.. The OP claims its his job to cover the QB 1-1.

not just man-to-man run defense
But we have a LB assigned specifically to the QB man to man.

I don't care Beckwith a better linebacker and should start and play the intire game unless it is a blowout like the last game.

Unacceptable.
He's too slow so we have to adjust our game plan and scheme around him?

Flat footed - check
Bad read - check
Gets blocked - check
But Debo is CLEARLY at fault.

It makes sense. They have 11 players. We have 11 players. If each of our guys takes one of their guys and tackles him every play, we should be good and never get scored on.

Debo's reaction will be correct for this week, because Auburn will add a throw option off of the same play

Debo is covering the inside receiver, and took off to cover the receiver, but he must maintain containment because Debo and DJ are the only linebackers in the game. So, one must maintain the runner and one must maintain the QB. In this situation Debo took to pursue the reciever which leave DJ to cover the RB and QB.

Chief needs to take ALL of the welter heat moving forward.
He's never had a mlb younger than a 3rd year player.
Is your scheme so difficult to grasp it takes 3-4 years? Or are you a bad teacher?
Ludacrous that he takes so long to coach kids up.

Louis is actually in as well, he's lined up over the TE. we're in base personnel.
