I think it's really a challenge for a DC to engineer their defenses for all the exotic offenses that are now out there and which they face across the course of a season.
And in a given game, there are usually about a half dozen or so plays that swing the outcome of the game.
Had those plays gone Clemson's way, Venables once again looks the genuis.
As CFB history marches on, our 2011 D looks like the perfect modern day defense.

And before you get started on the chance of injury you need to know that these players carry insurance policies in case of a tragic injury that would keep them out of the NFL.

quote:-This is so true. You add into the mix that at the college and high school levels, with RPO's, they're allowing offensive linemen to get to the LB level on pass plays. Also destroys DL/LB/S keys when they allow offensive linemen to fire out 3-4 yards downfield on pass plays. Single biggest bitch that you hear at D coaching clinnics.
He is a very good DC, but he’s not a miracle worker. In fact, no DC can stop a well run talented offense. Not today, when they allow receivers to push off and offensive linemen to hold
