Why evacuate West if the storm's projected path keeps moving farther West?(

You realize how many people live in New Orleans, not everyone will be able to go East. And East to where?

I thought Contraflow stopped in Baton Rouge is that not correct?

Correct, but they can't all stay in BR, they have to go somewhere = traffic

My worry, is that once I get over there, which will take a tank of gas. I won't be able to get gas in BR, to get back...anyone remember not being able to get gas for a day or so after katrina?

Florida, Atlanta, Birmingham. I didn't mean just East, but East then North.
For Katrina, most people went towards Lafayette, Lake Charles, Houston, etc. At this point if I was making plans, I would go the other way. Not towards B.R.

What about leaving after the game on Saturday??? Probably not optimal, but maybe better then traffic on Sunday?? My son's flight is out of New Orleans on Sunday about noon. I think they are planning on going over early, just to get to the destination.

It is an LSU season opener...home gate to boot!!!! The stadium will be insane!!!!

We're in the same boat and tentatively planning to drive over Saturday morning and back Saturday after the game.

LINK

I don't think you folks that think you will just run back to NO understand the situation. When they start ContraFlow which is the traffic evac plans, ALL interstate roads will be going away from LA. The only way you might get to NO from BR is using Airline Hwy but not sure if that one is part of the plan also. Check the link above for info. It will all depend on when they put this into motion. If it is Saturday you are screwed.

They will not want a repeat of the last time so they will probably call this plan into action sooner then later.

Especially with the game on TV, the risk and hassle of being there live are not worth it.

I live in Houston too, but have been in Manhatten for a while. I'm scheduled to fly into New Orleans at 9 am on Saturday morning from NYC, and then fly to Houston from NOLA on Monday. I have no clue what I'm going to do yet...Luckily I have a back up plan to fly into Houston on Saturday if this son of a bitch Gustav moves north soon. I can't believe this is happening. It has to be worst case scenario.
