We have to roster the players now

Imagine if we backed down and caved in:
1) Harris and Wright get pissed, claim breach of contract and sue LSU
2) 3-4 weeks go by and there's an announcement from the SEC: "In light of recent circumstances we have decided to amend our policy regarding former NFL players. The rule is now, if you have ever played in an NFL game you cannot come back."
3) Within 30 minutes of the SEC announcement Alabama announces both Harris and Wright will finish the season as part of the team.

I'd rather risk that than be blackballed by the college football playoff committee. Isn't that what the ultimate goal is? Winning a national championship?
