It’s a pointless hypothetical. There is nothing that has happened this season that makes you think this will happen.
1. Carmouche has only pitched more that 6 innings 4 times all year and more than 7 1 time.
2. LSU has consistently driven up starters pitch counts to where even if they are keeping LSU off the scoreboard they are at 100 pitches in the 5th or 6th inning.

I get it. He's not a weekend guy we see in the SEC. The point is that LSU has some risk here. If we threw Dutton for example, how many runs would we need to score? So, where's the line? If we pitched Money, how many runs would you expect him (and the supporting staff) to give up?
I think Hurd is the guy that is the worst guy we have that we thing gives us a significant advantage on the mound. There's still risk. Hurd isn't a guarantee. And, a guy like Carmouche could slow LSU's offense down.

There is no such thing as “one of our aces”
Hurd is the best option to pitch deep into the game and set you up for a healthy bullpen the rest of the weekend.
He’s also the best option if worst case scenario plays out and their pitcher matches LSUs

LSU pitched Hurd in the first game against Mississippi State?
You do know LSU has won series against 2 other regional hosts, swept another one, and split a series with another? Why don’t you bring those up?

I see what you’re saying. Hurd is invaluable to have on the back end. I know it’s a 40 loss Tulane team but who would you want pitching. Why take the chance of Johnny wholestaff in the first game. LSU has lost midweek games before.
