Just my thinking but Hughes is a much better defensive option at SS than Slaughter. Hal is one of the more fluid defensive players to come in and start as a freshman.
Austin Nola 09
Ty Ross 11
Andrew Stevenson 13
All freshman who played big roles and hit 8-9 as freshman because their glove was worth it in the field.
Hughes will get better, he wasn't supposed to be LSU's primary SS this year but the experience will help him mature at a much faster pace moving forward.

I dont think you are going to see them change that many different positions. And PM prefers defense at short. If broussard doesnt start hitting soon i think you could see reid at 3rd with bain and slaughter at 2nd and 1st. But i expect broussard to break out of this soon.

Our hitting has been fine the last 2 weeks
Bullpen let us down multiple times
Hughes is better defensively than Slaughter and Reid was horrible at the plate in Sec play when he was playing everyday

Against Oregon state you saw how good he can be. A low 90s fastball with natural arm side run and a pretty nasty breaking pitch made the best lineup in the country look silly for 7 innings.
I like Gilbert. I think he can be great for us but lets be honest. He was getting a very generous strike zone against Oregon State. I give him major props for exploiting it but it was generous

Besides Marceaux are there any pitchers who will contribute very much?

Yes, plenty of power arms coming to campus.
Jaden Hill, Levi Kelly, Cole Henry, Chase Costello, etc...
Reminds me of the 2014 class.

What’s your outlook on Cade Beloso and Gavin Dugas?

Beloso reminds me a ton of Chinea but from the left side. He’s only 6’0 but a powerful and sticky frame. I don’t see him anywhere else besides 1B or DH so he’s going to need to show he can hit consistently. He’s one of those that may need a year or two to get going (much like Webre this season) but should become a solid 3-4 guy.
Dugas is one of the best athletes in the class. Great speed and has a chance to come in next year and compete for 2B or 3B with Broussard, Hughes, and Bianco(assuming Smith is at SS).
I see both at LSU next year.

I would put a little money on Giovanni batting leadoff next year. He’s arguably the fastest player in the entire class...6.45 60 2 years ago...that’s sick

Just to add on to Beloso and Dugas, both will be playing summer league ball this year. Dugas will playing for the Danville Dans (Prospect League) with Drew Bianco (and his Louisville brother Ben coincidentally), and Brandon Nowak.
Beloso will be playing for the Lima Locos in the Great Lakes League with Braden Doughty and Trent Vietmeier.
Still looking for other locations. Not coming up with much. I know Webre and Cabrera are scheduled for the Cape. Broussard to the Northwoods league. But I haven't found anyone else.

I got to say Nick Webre might end up being something special
