Or lack thereof. He is lazy on the dribble drive.

He’s fun to watch when he’s got the ball from 12 feet in but my god he is so bad defensively

He’s a liability on defense but will fit good in the NBA till the 4th quarter

He isn't the only one, Smart and Mays let their man go around them all game long and yet can beat those same guys off the dribble on the offensive side. There is a lack of effort problem on the defensive side of the ball. Bad dribble penetration defense is leading to the majority of their problems on defense.

Whenever they switch he’s guarding SG’s on the perimeter, it’s just a bad match up that opposing teams are taking advantage of. I would point to the defense played by the backcourt guys before I single out Watford, and I’m including Taylor in that group.

I agree fully with your take.

How can you penetrate against the other guards but not play defense against the same guards.

If you have the quickness to penetrate then you should have enough quickness to cut off dribble penetration.

IMO, that's coaching. A good coach teaches his players how to defend the ball just like he teaches them how to run his offense. WW is just not a great basketball coach! He gets out-coached just about every game and it's really glaring in the closing minutes when he doesn't know how to make adjustments.

This is almost exactly what was said about Simmons when he was here. Took it easy on D to not risk injury. I think Watford is doing the same. He is probably one and done.

Until yesterday Watford had been guarding point guards and shooters for damn near a month. Nobody in their right mind would think he’d excel in that role and his defense was never mentioned until then. Our record has fallen off a cliff since Wade made that decision, he’s our biggest player and is still guarding out of position to protect Days who should be the 6th man and is actually our worst defender. Watford is catching hell from fans because Wade threw him under the bus not because he’s as bad as people are saying.

He never mentioned him by name. I’m not sure I’d call that throwing him under the bus. Putting him in a position to fail would be Wade’s fault though.

You’re right he didn’t call him by name but the Rant has pretty much unanimously assumed it was him and that’s when the attacks on Watford started. Until that point he was being overwhelmingly lauded here as a rising star. The comment I made was mostly referring to the fans sudden turn on Watford immediately after Wade’s comments last week.

Days is one of our few plus defenders. He certainly has his share of careless fouls, but he is our best team defender and a good individual defender. You rarely see Wade get on him and it's for good reason.

Watford is our worst defender. Marlon plays good individual defense. He makes a lot of good rotations in team defense, but he also blows a few rotations that have lead to wide open looks.
