I don’t think you’ve really thought this through. The ONE advantage of having Alabama in our division is if we beat them, we’d be forgiven for any other blunder in the season before that. The scenario of losing to them but winning everything else is delusional. We’d have to win the lottery to lose that game but somehow make it to the SECCG and win it. Alabama would have to (for them) really crap the bed, i.e. lose not only to us but also to at LEAST one other SEC west school and not make the SECCG. And then there’s the whole situation of the media and the networks being tired of seeing multiple SEC teams in the playoffs...
But if we lose any conference games early in the season but win out, that would mean we’ve beaten Bama, won the SEC west and won the SEC. We would be an AUTOMATIC playoff team after that. Hell, if we’re being literal, you said. ONE loss. This scenario would mean we’d win out and win the national championship.

Vandy- No Way, I’m attending that one. Would make my first trip to Nashville miserable.
Don’t wanna lose to any team in the West.
The only answer is Florida in a close one. THEN hope the Gators win the East and then we smash them in the rematch.

I want to set Texas football back another 5 years after LSU gets through with them.
Why? We're not Arkansas and hate Texas because they owned us in the SWC. Who cares about Texas football. aTm yes, but not Texass. Yes lose to them and run the SEC and you win the conference and in the playoffs

This is the correct answer. Undefeated in SEC play, win SEC championship game/SEC champions is worst-case scenario. I'll take that result any year and be happy.

I’m with you...lose a close one at Bama. Seems like a lot of people here have 1 goal and it’s GET to the playoff. Alot of these posts suggest beating Bama then making the playoff. Well, what happens then? Unless Bama loses an additional game, then we’re looking at 2011 all over again. Rematch Bama knowing we stole one in Tuscaloosa OR rematch Bama pissed the hell off and ready to skull-drag their asses? Personally, I’ll take the ladder.

This. Texas goes 10-2 or better but lose their conference to Okie and we run the table after the loss. Most respectable loss of any team during the season except for Bama losing to us. Win the west, SEC title and playoffs here we come!

I could be tempted to agree with your Alabama idea, or even reading some guys saying Utah and georgia southern.
I see the merit but I really gotta think best look is a super close and hopefully controversial loss to Florida.. that means we run the table vs Texas, sec West, smoke florida or Georgia in sec championship game and run table in playoffs...
