1MileTiger :

you are an idiot its all about Technique and Form you obviously do not know what you are talking about they go slow in the beginning to understand technique and Form then they speed it up with pads. you have to get technique down first or your just running around with no agenda

It's about the technique and burning it into your brain.

LSU is the only school to use dummies or drills like this.

I can guarantee you diving and "roll-tackling" a soft-weightless dummy while landing on a 1.5 ft thick cushion prepares you for absolutely nothing on the football field.

It teaches you form and technique you dumbass. Did you not hear the coaches yelling at the players to hit the dummy low. And I'm sure the coaches don't focus at all on gap assignment and coverage.

Please, go on since you obviously know how to run a college football program better than men who have been doing it for 20+ years and get paid millions to do it. I'm sure you could show them a thing or two.

NFL teams using dummies to work on technique... I guess every football coach in america is dumb.

Why do these dummies have arms? To learn the TECHNIQUES of swim moves, batting the ball, etc.

Why have sleds? If it was for weight, they could just go to the weight room. They have little arms to teach you to put your hands under the pads and drive

I think I explained it. Let me know if you are still confused.

the only thing I've seen miles coach past 8 years is ...hands inside...hands inside.

Hands outside generate more holding penalties.

I grew up playing FB and in high school, and never really applied most of these drills to actually playing.

Which is probably why your football playing ended with high school

Sure, every team/coach runs these same drills across America each and every day.

Are these guys really learning new techniques? Most of these kids have played football from pop warner/middle school/high school and know technique pretty well.

What are they doing at Alabama, because whatever it is, it's working. Albeit, if they are hitting on tackling dummies right now, I will retract my previous statements.

But seriously, I don't feel most athletes will use 80% of these techniques in any given football game. A DB is going to sprint across the field as fast as he can, and dive at the players feet.

Some players, believe it or not, will still tackle with their heads down and get paralyzed. That technique was instilled from day 1 of football as a kid.

There is also this thing known as muscle memory. These drills also teach reactionary responses that we adapt to and allow for quicker decision making. Fractions of a second matter when a linebacker meets a running back in the hole. Now, enough discussion of dummies. Taxkiling Dummies for Dummies. Write that down.

Oh so that's why Bama had that game winning drive last year? Because they weren't using dummies the first day of fall practice. I see.
