You are capped offensively if your QB isn’t a running threat. Urban Meyer, the greatest offense mind in CFB history, proves that. If your guy can’t move you’re playing behind the 8 ball
Last I checked, Trask and Mac Jones are not running threats beyond avoiding a sack and picking up the occasional wide open first down. Their stats do not agree with you.

In a normal year, yes. Doesnt truly apply in 2020.
None of your 3 may even exist at LSU. But we know for sure that this Covid year has caused a lot of problems for LSU. Quit searching.

He nailed it.
quote:
1) lack of trust
Obvious that the defensive players dont trust each other. Not doing their jobs.
2) disfunctional work environment
Has a lot to do with new coordinators and covid off season. Expectations were far too high and leads to frustration like he said. Also the BLM stuff before the season didnt help
3) selfishness
Players opting out and leaving early is a sign of this. Probably plenty of it still around too

Bama is always the exception
Florida already has a loss. To Texas A&M lol. They aren’t winning a championship

1) losing the most players to the nfl in an offseason in the history of history
Oh is that why we are the worst defense of all time this year and heading to a 3-7 season?
We lost 7 players on defense to the NFL.
Ohio State lost 7 defensive starters to the NFL after 2016, as well as their QB, all pro RB and all pro WR. They went on to have a normal OSU season, losing no more than 2 games.
We aren't the first team to lose a buttload of players to the draft. We are however, the first team to lose those players and suck as bad as we are this year. THere's no excuse to be this bad. None. It's one thing to finish the season 6-4. That's excuseable. What we are about to do is fricking pathetic, and embarrassing, and you haven't seen anything like this from teams like OSU, Bama, or UGA, teams that have had years where they lost a shite load of players to the NFL.

Honest question here, not being shitty.
Even given the historic situation (everything you’ve pointed out is true), is it justifiable to be THIS bad?
I suffered through the 90s so I’ve seen bad football. I saw overmatched LSU teams get stomped but also saw them give really good teams all they wanted on occasion...91 FSU, 92 Fla, 93 Bama (win) 94 A&M and Auburn, just to name a few. Point being, even in the darkest period in LSU history, there was at least at times, hope. Not only do I not see a win in the 5 games remaining, I see little chance that in at least three of them that we don’t lose by 50 points or more. So in essence, even worse than those 90s teams. That’s unfathomable to a lot of people given LSU’s current stature in CFB.

No, they should be better absolutely. But there are a tangled web of issues and it starts with the players, coaching turnover, and limited practice time.
I did not like most of the coaching hires this offseason, fwiw. And said as such.

They barely even played.
Fehoko had 8 tackles in 8 games.
Divinity played in 5 games b/c he's a dumbass.
That's still no reason to be complete and udder dogshit on defense this year when you finished 5th, 15th and 7th in recruiting the last 3 years, unless all you cared about recruiting was offensive players and didn't put much emphasis on defense in those classes............especially the last 2.

Not good enough reason to excuse being as bad as we are. 3) is completely just absurd. Brennan was a more than capable QB.

Divinity was arguably the best player on the 2018 defense. Had he played last year, maybe Phillips or Queen are still around.
Fehoko played in all 15 games. not sure where you get 8 from. Still, good enough to be on an NFL practice squad.
Forget about the 2019 draft and who they lost.
Since then, they have lost:
McClendon
Justin Thomas
Shelvin
Marcel Brooks
Kary Vincent
All of these guys were scheduled starters
And in one of the losses, Derek Stingley didnt play.

Brennan is ok. He isnt a championship QB, and his play has been detrimental at times.

Defection of the coaches wasn't the issue. It was replacing them with stiffs.
Posted on 11/16/20 at 12:36 pm to Goldrush25
Both are issues, and defenses around the country are proving that.
