It was not Fred's but Freddie's and it did exist small hole in the wall bar in a strip mall north and west of campus

Damn, some old school Monroe folks up in this thread. Most of these places were closed before my drinking days began when I turned 18 in 1990 (legal back then. Never heard of a Fred's. There is a dollar store named Freds though.

Had to get up at 0:dark-thirty for an airline trip. Getting my Bama and A&M plans in order though!

I remember when Enoch's was across the bayou from campus, we always went and had a pitcher of beer and nachos for lunch between classes..... Good times

We always had a quarters game going throughout the day as one would get up to go to class they would be replaced by someone else.

Don't know how old you are, but back in the 1980s and early to mid 1990s, Monroe was known as Funroe for a reason. It was a great college town! The drinking age was 18 until 1997 and the bars were awesome...$5 at the door and all the draft and well drinks you could drink ALL NIGHT until 2am! The cops would just tell you go home if there were problems and if you were pulled over they would tell you to call someone to come get you. Don't know what happened, but Monroe, WM, Ouachita Parish Sheriff Dept changed in the mid-late 90s. Now they are just like every other police dept looking for DWIs to fund the dept.
