After watching the entire UCF vs Memphis Conference game a couple of things jumped out:

First: Their Tempo - They ran 90 plays, as many as LSU ran in the 7OT game. They wore Memphis out and then ran all over them.

UCF's back-up QB had a better performance versus Memphis than Milton did:
First game 10/13: UCF won 31-30: 14 pts down at the half, they held Memphis scoreless in the second half while scoring 14.

Second game 12/1: UCF won 56-41: In the first half they were down 38-14 and went on a 42-3 run, holding Memphis to only 3 pts in the 2nd half. They lost 3 TOs and ESPN graphic said only 1-10 overcome that TO margin but did not say what the odds were when combined with a 24 pt deficit.

Darriel Mack Jr. was 19/27 348 yds 2 TDs, 0 Ints, plus 4 rushing TDs

UCF vs the SEC: 3-0, Beat ALA in 2000, Beat GA in 2010, Beat Aub last year. Plus they beat Baylor. All in post-season Bowls. They are Very Motivated...Extremely motivated.

UCF and USF were rumored candidates for the Big 12 when that Power 5 conference explored expansion two years ago, but the Big 12 decided against expanding.

UCF is heading to its second consecutive New Year’s Six Bowl after becoming back-to-back AAC champions. However, the Knights are winners of 25 games in a row — the longest active winning streak among FBS teams — and desire inclusion in the College Football Playoff.

Like last season, UCF was not in the discussion as the final team in the CFP, which was awarded to Big 12 champion Oklahoma over two-loss Georgia.

That led to UCF athletic director Danny White to call the CFP an invitational rather than a playoff, and he has advocated — along with AAC commissioner Mike Aresco — for an expansion to the playoff system to include Conference Champions.

It's Not Just LSU vs UCF: It's the SEC vs UCF with reputations at stake

Sankey better hope LSU beats UCF – or this will blow up in the face of everyone in the SEC. If UCF does what it did the past two times the BCS/CFP allowed it into the big boy postseason (beat Baylor and then #7 Auburn), the SEC might as well get ready for nine months of UCF pointing to the last year’s Peach Bowl win over Auburn and a Fiesta Bowl win over LSU as the exact reason the SEC wants no part of scheduling UCF.

Because if a Group of 5 team gets in, that’s one fewer spot for the Power 5 conferences – and one less chance for the SEC to land two spots in the CFP.

A loss to UCF also damages Florida (or any other SEC team) in recruiting against UCF, which has tremendous facilities, a booming campus life (the largest public enrollment in the country) and a thriving city as a backdrop.

If UCF beats LSU, the narrative strictly becomes avoiding the Group of 5 team that can beat you.

SECN preview LSU vs UCF: "LSU better be laser-focused"

"There is no difference in UCF & OU. These guys go at warp speed and will wear a big defense down. Mack is 6'3" 230 lbs and he is a product of an Offensive System that runs through the QB."

"There are always questions about the LSU Offense, Coaching, & what direction these guys are going offensively."

It's like everyone already has their excuses ready says Saints Tre'Quan Smith, former UCF WR

"It's like everyone has their excuses ready," New Orleans Saints wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith said last week. "That's what happened when we played Auburn last year. It's crazy. And I'm starting to hear it now. 'They don't have the cornerback. They wanted to play Michigan.'"

"I mean players on that UCF squad that are like, 'All right, we're going to show them,'" he said. "That's what happened last year against Auburn. We didn't feel like they took us seriously."

"We know what type of players we are," Smith said, still referring to himself as a Knight. "And if we stick together and we fight, all of us are five stars. It's not the stars that categorize you. It's the heart."

"Even if we beat them, people are still not going to give the respect to UCF," he said. "It's going to be some kind of excuse. 'Oh, they weren't ready to play. Oh, our best guys didn't play.' It's going to be some kind of excuse why UCF won. I see it already."

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said last week that Central Florida needs to improve its non-conference schedule in order to get into the four-team College Football Playoff.

"OK, people see us as underdogs," Smith said. "But we want them to see us with respect. We know we're way better than three-star ratings or whatever ratings they give us."

Its a meaningless bowl game with a lot of normal players not available.

Anyone putting stock in the result of this game as a decision maker for reputations of the teams is a moron and idc what they think anyway. This game will be forgotten about by the time the national championship kicks off.

It is NOT a meaningless game to a lot of people. Not meaningless to the players playing (unless of course you might get picked in the 1st round so screw everybody else right?), not meaningless to the coaches who are trying to build a program thru recruiting, and not meaningless to fans that actually care for the well-being of the program as a whole. I garuntee you it is not meaningless to everybody on the UCF side.

If you want to come here and say that this game and other bowls games like it are meaningless, then don’t come here and bitch after IF we lose.

I agree. This game means a lot. NY6 bowl for the first time since the CFP. Playing a UCF team that everyone’s been talking about. This is absolutely our chance to show everyone that we’re back to being a prominent team. If we lose, we’re back in the bargain bin fighting for relevance.

Jesus Christ, if another one of you dumb motherfrickers utters this nonsense. Are they keeping score? Then it’s not fricking meaningless.

I mean, I can get behind the idea that everything is meaningless save for meanings we arbitrarily ascribe to them. And because we are different people with different minds, we naturally attribute different levels to all things. But goddammit, if kids are running out there in LSU uniforms on national tv to compete against other kids in a different school’s uniforms, and they are, in fact, not only keeping score, but tallying up a win or a loss, i.e. crowning a winner and a loser, surely we can all agree there is at least some level of meaning there.

Besides, winning has an innate meaning anyway. You play...to win...the game. HELLO!!

While the dynamics of this game are WAY different than when we played Oregon in Dallas a few years back, the team styles are somewhat similar. There was a lot of concern that the Ducks high tempo offense and speedy skill players would run circles around us. But our defensive line dominated their offense to the point where they had to throw the playbook out the window. These games are always interesting. It’s like throwing some salt in a recipe that is supposed to be sweet. You never really know what’s gonna happen, but it could be interesting. I’m in the camp that this game is a big deal from a reputation standpoint. They’ve been claiming they should be up there with the big boys in the playoffs. A win over LSU, however flawed it may be with all the players out and all, would be a statement win for them. Kinda why I never liked this matchup for LSU. Nothing to gain, but lots to lose.

At this point all I can tell myself is, "In Aranda I Trust" He'll have to think of ways to slow them down and then the offense will have to eat clock and score TDs on most drives. LSU isn't making it easy on ourselves.

That exact attitude, if taken by the staff, players and everyone else associated with LSU, would be why they lose(not because some players are missing) and I'll take it further, would be why they wouldn't win SEC or national championships.
Every game has to be approached with the same amount of importance or else you are already gonna fall short of your ultimate goals(SEC and national championship).

Seems like most fans are over confident because UCF is in a shitty conference. UCF is going to frick LSU up.

With that logic, the Citadel should be ranked or something. Hell they score 17 more points on BAMA than LSU. Tied BAMA at half. Must be a powerhouse!
No, their schedule is not strong, but any of you that think this will be a slam dunk are idiots. UCF is a VERY good team and if we win, it will be hard fought and very close.

Weren't Oregon, Texas Tech, Louisville supposed to do the same things to us with their up tempo style and awesome quarterback play?

Granted we were fricking awesome in 2011 but Oregon was a legit top 10 team as well.
As for TT, we outscored and ran away from their high flying offense.
And we stomped a mudhole in Lamar's offense.

These teams don't worry me like the Penn State and Notre Dame teams did, by actually wearing us down.

I'm with you, Carl. I'll feel a bit better at 10 & 3. The thought of another 9 & 4 is unsettling for me.

Mikel his worrird should I be with all the defenders not playing?

I mean the game doesn’t “worry” me in the sense that it won’t change my opinion of a successful season. I would like to win and for real who in the hell do we have at CB?

Thats why Aranda makes the big bucks.

I just make plans for where I'm watching the game and what food and drink I'm having.

They aren’t running 90 plays against LSU. Tired of this up tempo narrative bullshite from UCF. LSU is going to run the ball down their throats and keep them off the field. That’s how LSU is going to win plain and simple. We will beat the frick out of UCF.

Were we missing half our defense? I'd feel much more confident if we are going in with our number 1's against this team. We are now down to the 3's at CB. UCF also has a better run game than people realize. I'm worried about this one.
