We're technically still in contention for the playoffs. If I told you baws this at the start of the season ya'll would have ripped me. O is building a contender.

Technically not eliminated =\= contender
But we’re moving in the right direction.
We need to figure out the offense

ESPN CFP snow gave us a 1% chance.
But besides the anemic offense which we seem to be plagued with the last several years, this team has exceeded expectations to this point, win wise.

If he doesn’t fix the offense we won’t be contending for anything. It’s the same thing that got Les fired. I like Orgeron and I hope he fixes it but he’s repeating the same mistakes as Les on the offensive side of the ball.

I don't think anyone is disappointed with the season thus far. However, it's also not unreasonable to be concerned about the future of the program under Orgeron when the same issues that plagued LSU pre-Orgeron (i.e. stagnant offense) are STILL plaguing LSU.
A fan can be happy with team's success BUT still objectively recognize what needs to be improved if the program is to get back to being a serious SEC championship contender.

Hence, the "building" part.

That's not what's going on here. People hated the O hire from jump Street and are now using this offensive production as a tool to bludgeon their online enemies with and prove that they were right, that O sucks and that the program is in decline.
But irrationality rules this Board. So if you and I can agree that the offense has its issues that need to be resolved and that Ensminger is probably not the guy we need as OC, the CheeriOs will go nuts and the Never Os will say it's Orgeron's fault that our offense is bad, never once recognizing that we're in pretty damn good shape, all things considered.

To be fair, when Les was fired it wasn't as if LSU was in dire straits as a program. It had just gotten to a point where all we tired of the same issues arising year, after year, after year. Great defense with a stagnant ineffective offense that wasn't good enough to allow LSU to compete for SEC and national titles.
The change was made presumably to try to remedy that problem. Yet, here we are once again.
O definitely deserves some of the blame. LSU essentially would have allowed him to try to hire any OC he wanted. Instead, he chose to hire a guy who hadn't been a permanent OC in 20 years and even himself really didn't want the job. It would be one thing if the Ensminger hire was the best O could do with limited resources available. It's quite another when you hire a guy with ZERO demand to be your OC even though your employer is willing to let you spend money to get a more accomplished coach.

Assuming we're able to beat A&M again, I agree with both points. However, without major changes in offensive staff in the offseason I have a hard time envisioning us taking that next step to being a legit national contender.

Lord
Do we really think O and E want to run max protect keeping two RB and the TE in to block? That wasn't at all the plan coming into the season. They practiced and planned for three wr sets and a single back.
The problem is that neither of our OT can play out on an island. You can chip and help one guy, but you cant do it for both unless you bring in the FB and remove a wr.
They tried to overcome it with slants and quick passes, but Bama laid out the game plan by playing zone and taking that away.
I can live with the scheme that they want to run. It is painful to watch the scheme they have to run because of the ineptitude on the OL. Chidi and George Brown were supposed to be the answers at LT but they both sucked and quickly transferred. Until this past class where Rosenthal and Wire were recruited we have gone 2 years without signing a single legit LT candidate.

Yes, getting shut out at home to the #1 is progress!

It was more than that. Les had stagnated to the point of regression. As has been mentioned, LSU hasn't had a 10 win regular season since 2012. If winning 10 with the possibility of 11 and a chance, however small, of actually getting to playoffs this year, when everyone thought we'd get dicksmacked all season isn't progress, I don't know what is. And, yes, the offense has been bad lately, but I remember when LSU was averaging over 400 yards and more than 30 points a game. That went bye bye when our o line became the walking wounded. 400 and 30 isn't setting the world on fire by any stretch, but it's a damn sight better than where we had been and where we are now.
All that to say that you're right, Les was fired for his failure, over 10 years or whatever, to bring together an offense that's worth a damn. Orgeron hired a guy that a lot of people thought would allow us to dominate. We were middling again and the guy butted heads with everyone. Orgeron, by all accounts, went out the next year to find someone else and couldn't do so. There's a failure there somewhere, whether in his personality, offensive philosophy, or unwillingness to have his people lose their jobs, I don't know.
But a 10 win regular season is incredible and very possible. An 11 win season is even better and very possible. LSU feels like a program on the move again for the first time in 4 or 5 years, and it feels like it could begin to compete in the next 2 years for the SEC west against Alabama and the rest. The lack of recognition of that by the people on this Board is astounding.

Les was fired mainly due to arrogance and stubbornness which were keeping LSU down.
He was simply drawing a paycheck....no matter how nice a guy he may be.

Not yet he is not, Yes the offense is under performing like with Miles. But the mistake wasnt simply that the offense was under performing, it was that after severely under performing with Cam Cameron for 2014 and 2015 he inexplicably made no changes to scheme or staff and rolled out the same offense in 2016 and started the season with a loss directly due to the same issues of the previous 2 years. If Miles makes an OC change and we start that season the same way he is likely not fired.
ETA: If Orgeron makes no staff changes on the Offensive side of the ball this offsseason then he will be well on his way down the same path as Miles took.

“O sucks”
I don’t get to read every post of the rant, but I haven’t seen any implying that this season proves Coach O to suck.
He gets the credit for LSU being a top 10 team and he gets the criticism for the offense that is one of the worse in the SEC and one of the worst nationally. Both Nick and Miles wiere criticized as well. Nothing new here

In order to do that most on here would have to let go of some of that O hate and that's not happening. They'll harp on every weakness that they can find. Anything to bash O over the head with.
