Sam is definitely improving from game to game. I think if he could just stop turning the ball over it would do wonders for our team. I think we are sitting at 6-0 if he didn't have so many turnover issues. This is really what is killing us. Our offense is putting up great numbers and our defense is serviceable. If he gets his ball security under control and we get some players back from injury then look out.

Well, then here's some promising statistics. Matt Corral & Jackson Dart both reduced the number of interceptions thrown from their first to their second year's under Kiffin.

Matt Corral (2020–2021)

Interceptions

Year 1 (2020): 14

Year 2 (2021): 5

Jackson Dart (2022–2023)

Interceptions

Year 1 (2022): 11

Year 2 (2021): 5

Here's a graph of TDs to INTs for their first two years.

I feel like last year is the only time in the 2020s where we’ve had a defense that did this consistently

Need to figure out what we want to do from a schematic standpoint in order to force more turnovers. Blake used to play a lot of man and quarters but we play a lot more Cover 2 and Cover 3 which has left a lot of posts and seams open.

We started playing more Cover 2 and Cover 3 starting with the Ole Miss game and it hasn't done well for us. Players even look more comfortable playing man and quarters. Almost like thats what they practiced all offseason.....

100%

We’ve always talked about QB play in terms of our success or lack of it. But all of our best teams, outside of 2019 which makes Burrow even more GOAT, have created multiple turnovers per game.

It makes a QBs job so much easier when the defense is stealing possessions and operating on short fields.

Obviously the pick 6 against Clemson blew that game wide open, and the pick on chambliss is what kick started the comeback.

A turnover at any point last weekend likely gives us the win, although the stops after Sam’s fumble and INT were effectively turnovers. They didn’t flip field the way they can, but still huge impact plays/series for the defense.

Giving extra possessions to a coach like Kiffin is exactly what this team needs to really get to the next level imo.

Silver lining despite having 2 losses currently, is that the offense is improving each game.

We have two winnable games before the BYE. If the offense continues to improve these next few weeks, and the defense gets their swagger back, Bama and Texas in Death Valley could be fun.

The season and playoff expectations are not over, especially if Whit and Trey’Dez can return in November.
