I can not speak for all tulane fans but the attendace miminums are the last thing tulane should be worried about. They are way over the number they need to be. Even this year they are avg close to 29,000. The miminum is 15k. Tulane does not need LSU to meet that. In fact I will go on record here that tulane has NEVER had ONE game in their history that they have sold less than 15,000 tickets (kitrina year not included) much less have had a whole year where the avg was below 15k

Is that tickets sold? (including pre-paid season tickets)...........or actual attendence? I know that most schools dont make that distinction, but which one counts as far as the minimum goes?

All the NCAA looks at is paid attendance which Tulane always has over 15,000

Paid attendence counts toward the NCAA mims

LSU is one of the only schools that I have ever seen report actual attendance.

In 2008 Tulane averaged 22,750. I dont see a %32 increase in attendance per game this year for the green wave, sorry.

Correct.

FWIW:

NCAA.org: 2009 Attendance sorted by Average Attendance per Game
- LSU: #8 in Avg. Attendance w/ 91,566
- Tulane: #77 in Avg. Attendance w/ 26,931 (just behind BC and Wake Forest)

bleacher report (9/30/08): Low Attendance Threatens FBS Status for Some College Football Teams
- If your favorite college team can't average 15,000 people to a game once every two years, the NCAA technically can drop your team from what used to be called Division I-A to I-AA.
- Coupled with the NCAA rule that mandates FBS conferences have at least eight teams, dropping a school or two from a conference might cause the entire conference to fold.
The Sun Belt (eight schools) and the WAC (nine schools) are both vulnerable to this problem.
While the MAC and CUSA also have teams on the death list, they certainly could absorb the losses of a few teams without collapsing.
- Why any team can't average 15,000 in paid attendance is beyond me. It seems simple loopholes like cutting the ticket price in half and having a yearlong two-for-one sale could instantly double "paid attendance," which is probably the only way Idaho is currently averaging "15,003" people.

I have no links but I assume that the payday at Texas in 2003 was close to that tulane would get in BR (if not more). When Texas played in the dome they had 55k or so there and Tulane did not have to give Texas 40k Tickets. 50k * 25 bucks is a hell of a lot more than a guan. From LSU for a game in BR. To me that means they came out better with a home and home with texas than playing two in BR

I am not 100% sure but I believe there are no guarantees paid to either team in a typical home and home series. If there is a guarantee, then it would most likely be the same for both teams. So, it's a wash either way, as far as making money for the team.

In the case of Texas, using your number of 50K attendance at $25 a ticket, that would be a total of $1.25 million at Tulane, before expenses. Keep in mind, Benson gets the concession and parking revenue. Also, Tulane would have considerable travel and lodging expenses for the game at Texas' stadium. So, overall, Tulane would have made less than $1.25 for the Texas series.

As far as the LSU-Tulane series, Tulane gets $800,000 for playing in Tiger Stadium and they have 30,000 tickets to sell when the game is in the Superdome. Using $25 (just to keep it the same for comparison to the Texas series) per ticket, Tulane would take in $750,000. So, for every 2 year home and home with LSU, Tulane would make $1.55 million before expenses (including minimal travel expenses).

Now, if Tulane would agree to play soley in Tiger Stadium, they would receive $1.6 million every 2 years, with minimal travel expenses.

Why didnt Tulane want to play LSU exclusively in Death Valley?

Simple. Tulane needs the LSU/Tulane games to be played in the dome to boost their average home attendance figures. LSU fans pack the dome, not Tulane fans. Tulane is close to losing its Div 1-A status if their home attendance doesn't improve. The NCAA gave them a grace period after Katrina, but that is going to expire soon.

I heard that Tulane might be getting some competition soon from none other than the Lakefront Privateers!

Threeput - Contracts are broken all the time. I'm sure Tulane has opted out of a game they were contracted to participate in. I don't think that should be your agument.
