I've been trying to figure out what sort of agreement Jaden Daniel had with LSU after his college NIL deal expired. Everyone talking about this issue seems to be skipping past this part, but I'm trying to understand what JD's side is trying to stop LSU from doing. Does it come down to LSU and the NIL collective not being able to sell his jersey to the public anymore or does he want his name and image ripped off of every wall and plaque on campus? Was there a formal or verbal agreement that was broken between them?

I don't see anything stopping LSU from selling a #5 jersey in the gift shop as long as it doesn't have Daniels name on it

We should get a walk on with the last name Daniels to wear #5 so we can legally sell the jersey

Let’s think about this for a second: if Brian Kelly made Jayden Daniels a promise that he wouldn’t issue his jersey number after the 2023 season, then why would he turn around the very next year and promise someone else No. 5?

This is what I would like to know as well. What exactly are they trying to stop LSU doing? Do they have legal recourse to stop whatever it is? If he was compensated for NIL at the time he was here, what is to stop them from capitalizing off of goods that reference that time frame?

There is an article that has an attorney who speaks on to that and stated its a whole bunch of nothing burger. Only thing he and his camp can do is stop them from selling his jersey with his name on it. The photos, highlights, trophies, etc. is not NIL generated income its historical that the school can post or show as long as they don't commercialize it to generate funds.

There is no violation of agreement. As a former player you cannot tell a team they can't show awards or highlights of players who played for them. Its completely stupid.

I think it just means they can't show him in future video packages or put up his image on posters/billboards promoting LSU. But he can't force LSU to retire his number or stop anyone else from getting it. His request to return the trophy is also ridiculous and will be ignored. He basically wants to be erased from LSU history which doesn't seem to hurt anyone but himself. LSU has a long history of talent they can use for stuff like that. I'm really just guessing, but that's what it seems like to me.

I don’t see him having any legal recourse whatsoever of them showing him in highlight reels of his time here. He was compensated for that time and it is LSU property.

There is no current agreement in place.

Not really, if there had been any legally binding agreement. Contracts are with LSU

WTF is this POS?

LSU football has been around before his great great great grandfather was alive.

Freak him and his NIL BS

LSU should crush him in public court until he cowers. Distract his $ season with a lawsuit, discovery and depositions

Have the media all over his a—.

Finebaum is ripping Jayden today. Spoiled and elite. Joe is not doing this.

“Athletes' licensing fees for jersey sales are typically managed through third-party licensing organizations. These organizations facilitate group licensing programs, allowing athletes to earn income from merchandise sales without the need for individual negotiations.”
