Trey Quinn - Why does he start?

This is not a flame on the kid, it's just something to discuss.
ETA: This is more of an LSU offense problem as a whole.
First off, I understand that he is open sometimes and Jennings misses him. That's true. However, I also know that he's not open nearly as much as everyone claims. Every single passing play, you can hear fans in the stadium screaming about how open Quinn was. It's kind of tiring at this point, but oh well.
Secondly, I think he would be very good in an offense where he can be utilized correctly. An offense where we throw short screens to him, or we run pick plays to him. He's a good player. But it's clear that we aren't going to run that type of offense. With the quarterback play we have gotten (very poor), he just isn't a guy who can give you as much.
In my opinion, if you've got a quarterback who isn't very good, we need to have bigger receivers out there who are bigger targets. Who can maybe go and get a ball that isn't that well thrown. To me, any play that Quinn is out there when Dupre or Diarse could be instead, we are hurting ourselves.
Now, maybe Quinn is a good blocker down field on our running plays, and that factors into the decision. But man, it just seems like Dupre is an overall better player than him. Plain and simple.
And, of course, I can't fail to mention the fact that Quinn probably has half as many drops on the season as he does receptions. It's gotten to the point where I'm not even confident he is going to catch the ball when it's thrown to him. His drops yesterday were both absolutely killers and drive stoppers. Yes, other guys dropped balls too (including Dupre on what would have been an easy first down), but Quinn seems to do it more this season than the rest of them.
Anyway, what a heartbreaker last night was. Again. Hopefully we can figure out a way to get off the mat and play well in our last two games. Geaux Tigers.

I think 4th behind Dural, Dupre, and Diarse.
I just think those three guys give us a better shot in the passing game. The big drops Quinn has had can't be ignored.

Fora guy that was touted as a sure handed receiver, he sure has dropped several important passes this season.

Well, then you missed the part where I said I think he's a good player.
It's just in the offense we run, I don't think he gives us better production than a guy like Dupre would. We don't utilize Quinn correctly, so why have him out there? That's my point.

And you're saying you hope I get banned?

I just brought up a point to be discussed. I'm not trying to hate on a guy who I think is a good player.
But like I've said, if we aren't going to utilize him better, I think other guys can give us a better shot.

My suspicion...he's got hands with glue when playing pitch and catch off the field, and when in practice. But when it's big time football/clutch...he blanks out under the pressure and folds. Might get better with experience...might not. People like J. Landry feed on the energy...others are overcome.
Time will tell. But they damn sure don't need to make him the primary in a bind.

There have been a number of "inexplicable" decisions made with regard to starters in the latter of half of the Miles era, haven't there?

For all the talk about diarse being the next landry...he hasn't seen the field much since the Wisconsin game....idk....since quinn almost got his head knocked off at auburn he has not been the same.

He runs pretty good routes. I like him as a player.
This is more of an overall LSU offense problem. If we're going to run the kind of offense we do, it's just not the best fit for him. With poor QB play, you need receivers who can help out the quarterback. Dupre has proven this year that he can do that.

We don't utilize anyone correctly who isn't a running back, oline, or Dural. I would say Dupree but he gets thrown 50/50 balls on fades only.
ETA: I don't think Quinn is in the game instead of Dupree on plays....so I don't think that's an issue

But I think Quinn is a guy who needs to be utilized more than a guy like Dupre.
You can throw up one-on-one balls to Dupre. You can throw him the fades. You can't really do that with Quinn. He's got to run good routes (which he does for the most part) and have a well-thrown ball in order for us to get completions.
We don't have many well-thrown balls.
Again, this is an overall LSU offense problem.

Why did Diarse start the year making some plays and then completely disappear?
Diarse should line up in Quinn's starting spot at Mondays practice. I don't think he will be scarred working out of the slot like Quinn seems to be.
I've been saying since Auburn that Quinn realized how big and hard sec defenses hit, and it scarred him. He's really cautious running across the middle it seems.
