Any thoughts on how this plays out? Admittedly not knowing a lot about Steele's schemes other than from the melts after we hired him, could the transition be an issue? I'm expecting much better play from the DL with Coach O. Talent and depth alone in the Secondary doesn't have me worried. I do know Steele is known as an good LB coach. Interested in getting the Rant's take...

The talent and position coaching skills are there. It will all boil down to how Steele and the staff operate on game days. Can he break down these high powered offenses? Can he make in-game adjustments? We just have to wait and see.

The OPs question is good, but I'm not sure anyone has the answer right now.

Just from watching the games it seems he likes bigger LBs but they are super athletic. O likes to rush the passer. Both like lockdown one on one corners

Bama did run some 3-4 fronts when they had guys like Cody in the middle.

Honestly I don't think we miss a beat and may even be better with a pass rush.

First opponent play going for positive yardage = rant explodes. All Miles fault we lost Chavis.

Steele has greatest defense of all time = Rant says all Miles fault because he didn't fire him sooner.

It's lose/lose for Miles.

At first I was upset to see Chavis go, but through this recruiting process I've kearned a lot about steele that I really like! I'm confident things work out in our favor. He's a better revruiter who just needs to run his talent. Although Chavis' 2011 year was great, it's kind of hard not to do that with all the talent we had. Hell I could stop any offense with all NFL athletes too. I'm very pleased at this point. Chavis ran like a bitvh and he's got A LOT of work to do in CS. He didn't pull in such a great class. One big DL wouldn't satisfy me but I'm sure it does Aggie fans. We still own them so why am I comparing?

Is going to be at least as good as 3rd and Chavis.

We have enough talent on that side of the ball that TD could coach the defense and it would rank in the top 30.

having said that, Chavis consistently had top 10 defenses, so he will be missed.

Will Steele keep us in a 4-3 scheme? At Alabama didn't he use a 3-4?

Hanagriff was talking about this today. We'll probably be more multiple than ever. You might see some 3 fronts but you won't see 4 LBs on the field at one time. You'll probably see an extra Safety or maybe even drop another DE back but you won't see at true 3-4 look. We simply don't have the personnel for that.

With LMFAO, Valentine, and Gilmore they should be able to find the middle of a 3-4 in there somewhere.

And talking about extra safeties, I can't help but think about Ed Paris (in any role) and (my personal favorite) Voorhies.

I think I like the idea of our D being multiple because it sounds good.

I want to know if he will go to the 2 check defense like saban runs. Players ability to see the offensive adjustment at the line and then RE adjust the D accordingly. I dont know how common this is-but commentators make it sound like its almost exclusive to Saban system
