As many may know, Fico's dad Ralph has been battling cancer for many years...but has in the last few weeks taken a turn for the worse. According to very reliable sources at the ballpark today, it does not look very good. If you believe in prayer, those might come in handy right now. If not, at least keep the family in your thoughts. Here is an ESPN story written just a couple weeks ago about the relationship Fico and her dad have as it relates to life and softball....great read if you have the time.

She was a great Tiger and she will be missed.

I read the story. A must read for everyone. It's like he fought so long to guide her and enjoy her career and see her secure at the next level. Now that has been achieved. A very special family and story about life.

She has to be one hell of a warrior! To be able to pitch like she did the last few games (with zero support).

I don't care either way about softball who wins or loses. The story behind Fico is amazing.

Five years was one estimate for what remained of a healthy life when Ralph was diagnosed. With the help of his oncologist in Connecticut, Dr. Jeffrey Orell, he's already doubled that. Last year, Ralph watched Rachele pitch a two-hitter for LSU to beat Missouri in the decisive third game of an NCAA tournament super regional. Then he headed to Oklahoma City to watch her pitch in the World Series.

"I always believed that I would be able to make it there, I always dreamed of making it there, but I was never sure if he would be able to be there watching me," Rachele said. "He has just been so strong. He fights every day, and he's just been such an inspiration to me. He's made it this far, and we've made it together."

They spent all those hours together on softball fields and in batting cages and backyards so that she might have a future in the sport. The results speak for themselves. Day after day, she also got to spend time with her dad, her friend and her catcher.

Those are the hours that matter most in the end.

Her whole career has been that way...she has been one to take the ball and just go with it.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Fico family. My family has been through cancer and times like this so I know what she is going through. I wouldn't wish cancer on my worst enemy. RIP Mr. Fico and my thoughts are with Rachele, her mother and their family. Geaux Tigers.
