If the toss goes bad, its likely going over his head.
i don't think i've seen a toss to a running back go over his head ever.

so the main point of this thread is that Miles took a risk... and IT WORKED as the toss play gained the first down, and that you like the fact that we have a risk taking coach agin right?

I am not sure what the point of second guessing successful risks is?
The toss might have been riskier, but IT WORKED....then ridley fumbled. Had it been a handoff, once he breaks the line, he would have still fumbled, i guess you would be calling for kneel down in that situation huh?

Why the hell are we running a toss in the 4th quarter on 3rd?? Not a coach in America with any sense would do that. Even if Crowton called the play, Miles should have enough sense to say "Wait NO! Put the ball in his stomach! Do not toss it! Hand it off. We don't want to take that risk."

But no. We run a downhill toss. That is terrible coaching

Perfect example of you drama queens finding stuff to bitch about. Kid takes it eight yards for a first down and fumbles and you blame the play call.

Unbelievable!

I don't think a toss is a risky call at all. That's basic football.

I agree - the odds of making a toss like that is not much different than making a handoff.

Whatever differences in the odds are totally insignificant compared to the effectiveness of the play.

Bitching about the toss/handoff is pretty lame.

Every wonder why it's so hard for a spread option QB to take a snap from under center?

An example of this would be Texas tech yesterday. The one time they went under center they fumbled. So at the end of the game when they were just kneeling the ball to run out the clock Potts was in the shotgun.

I agree with the toss call it was a good call and good play. The play that was called worked the back just did not secure the ball. Ridley fumble three times in that game. Two of ridleys fumbles took the oppertunity for points off the board. The first fumble came within the opponents 15 yard line on the opening drive of the second half. That drive could have been the back breaker for UNC had Ridley not fumbled the ball away. Murphy also fumble on his first run of the game.
My question would be do we not have other backs we could put in the game instead of just giving the ball to a back who has already fumbled twice in the game?

it was the only time the toss play worked. ridley looked much improved running the ball. he was battling for yardage and was making nice cuts. moving forward, but both of his fumbles killed our offense. we could have put it away on either of those opportunities.

He will get more touches in practice this week and get the coaching needed to drive technique home.

This is learned in jr. high. Coaches saw it in practice and well he had that problem against PSU last year. I thought it was b/c it was wet, but now I am not so sure. He will cost us a game with this by the end of this year should miles not bench him. He is not our best back. No freakin way.

there is no good time to fumble. You run plays because you are certain of their execution. Play call is not the problem.

If the D knows what you're running, and can blow it up, a toss is indeed stupid.

You run plays, tosses. sweeps, hand off's regardless of when you are in the game, you do it when it will work.

Me thinks you watch no football............ever.

I am sure, I hope anyway, that more than a dozen posters will point out the reasons WHY you are an idiot.

yesterday and Saturday I saw about 6 missed handoffs, two or three center exchange problems, two snaps go over a QB head in the gun...but not one toss go bad.

Ridley's display of terrible ball security had nothing to do with coaching. The poor coaching IMO was not getting Ford or Ware some carries after the earlier fumbles.
