I can see this being the reason. But I don't really care. Either way it puts LSU on the national stage as a place people want to go to, visit, and experience. People respect our name and our school for it, and it brings nothing but positivity to our reputation. Would I have stayed and high-five'd everyone? No, I think its overboard. But I most certainly wont criticize those who do it, for whatever reason, because it glorifies the name of the university I love. That is enough for me.
couldn't have said it better myself

Just google "LSU Fans."
Sincere or not I'd rather this than the usual opposite.
Well done

Any LSU fan who invited Stony Brook for a victory lap, or walked down to the bottom to slap five with them has zero idea of what it means to compete. You are the type of fan that goes to the game to watch the mascot, eat cotton candy, and watch the cool video graphics on the scoreboard. You sit in your sit and maybe cheer when Chris Guillot waves a "Geaux" at you, or you clap your hands when you see the hands on the scoreboard, but you have no comprehension of why this is a big moment in the game. I have no connection to this team other than being a fan. I make several games a year, follow almost every game on the radio/internet and made it to the Box for every postseason game that I could make. Even with that small connection, I was heartbroken last night when they lost. It was a kick in the gut. Would I show respect to Stony Brook, heck yes. I wouldn't curse or spit at them like the A&M fans did to LSU in 1989, but I have absolutley zero thought of running down to the field to slap them on the back and tell them how great they are.
Where is your self respect????? The worst thing in the word that LSU fans have read their own press clippings and now feel that they have to fall all over themselves to be the "best fans in college baseball".

Pretty soon we will be offerin words of encouragement during the games to the right fielder

It's obvious that the two of us can't get past our disagreement that football is different from baseball.
I don't care what sport is being played.
I would NEVER EVER cheer for a team that beat the shite out of my team. I don't understand why anyone else would. Guys from SB like Janikowski and Carmona will be in the MLB soon. Am I supposed to high five those guys????

So if players and coaches are EXPECTED to shake hands and congratulate the opponent after getting their arse kicked, what makes it so bad when a fan does it?

Mason Katz disagree with you. So does Tyler Hanover. But its cool, keep going around touting off about how you know what it truly means to support the guys, when they themselves are saying the opposite.

And you certainly don't have to but why do you give a shite if others do it?

CLEARLY they are wrong and The Rant is always right.

Well first you argued it was because college is different than pros and amateurs should be cheered for their efforts.
Now we're back to baseball is just different? What exactly makes it different? Aside from this practice from LSU baseball fans where else do you see this happen?

It's just a GAME people!! A GAME!! Of course act civil at the end of the GAME. The winners outplayed the competition in the GAME, when the GAME is over, the GAME is over.

So that makes it wrong? Is it worth a 21 page thread on the message board with people raging about it?

Well if it's a common practice in baseball because baseball is different I'd think there would be more examples of it.
some baseball fans like to pretend LSU invented college baseball so winning our respect and being applauded is some badge of honor

Because they are players, and on the field. I have been there on both sides. I have won it all, and I have been a part of teams that finished just short. Do you shake hands and congratulate, sure. That's what the players and coaches do. But the fans???? That's not what you're there for. You guys are the most self-intitled, slap yourself on the back people on this board. Hey look at me, I'm a great fan. No you're not. How many Southern baseball games have you been to? How many BRCC baseball games have you been to? How many ULL baseball games have you been to? Why aren't you going to those games, you're the greatest fan in college baseball. You just love this stuff. You clap for everybody. You belittle Stony Brook because they aren't a big name school, even though they have more MLB talent than this LSU team. You just told them, "You're pretty good, for a nobody."

Dude I'm just saying if you stand up and do it because you're a good sport then its ok because it isn't like these guys are professionals.
Frankly I think that may not be the case. I think its probably (but no one knows for sure) that LSU fans feel like they are expected to do it to carry on our reputation.
My point is I don't care - either way it looks good for the university.
Would you complain if a alumni donated large amounts of money to TAF so "everyone could see how much he loved LSU." I wouldn't. Anything that helps the university is ok in my book, ridiculous or not.

thats why 10,300+ left the stadium and didnt do it
once again we are talking about a very small percent of the LSU baseball fans

Not "you guys". I didn't do it but have absolutely no problem with those that did.
