Baseball mom, you said it all. You are 100% correct in your assessment. Many, many times we could have pulled our pitchers that were struggling but lots of time they did not even get a visit to the mound. I sat and watched teams like Florida,Aekansas, USCe and the likes use 4 or 5 pitchers in an inning just to keep the score where it was. Hell, Florida did it against us. You would think Manurei would have been paying attention. Take the Miss. St. loss. We know we have to sweep to have a chance. What do we do? We leave someone in the game that probably should not have been in the game PLUS we have no one in the bullpen ready for when we get in a bind. That is ALL about coaching. Hate to say it bit Manurei relies on luck for his results. I am ready for a change. This direction we are going will not work out for the Tigers.

not really.

I see 3 freshman pitchers who if they all develop in their 2nd year at an average pace will give us probably the best rotation in the conference if not the country.

This team underperformed...but it was young.

Smoke's last team had nothing coming back of value. Mainieri had to take that mess and completely rebuild. If Mainieri were fired today, the next coach would be sitting on a lot of talent.

It's wierd that you are unable to recognize the difference.

I agree the pitching coming back is really good, but I can't say they will even be the best in the conference. Florida's weekend rotation returns and they will probably get lucky in the draft like they always seem to do.

Yeah, and we lost Joey Bourgeois(pitched 60 innings which was 2nd on the team last year) and Chris Matulis(54 innings pitched 3rd last year) to injury. They would could have helped us get through those 1 loss games.

2010(2-Seed)
41-22 Overall
14-16 Conference
4-13 Away

2011
36-20 Overall
13-17 Conference
7-11 Away

We got better this year, but it wasn't enough. Hell look at 2007 football. A 2 loss team won a title, but most years it's an undefeated team.

Remember when we were 16-1 and the Box was rocking after sweeping Cal State Fullerton?

What the hell?

I got blasted at the time because I said it was fools gold. Beating CSF is big, beating them when they have 10 errors in 3 games....not so much.

Plenty of arms to choose from. It will be a matter of who steps up to fill roles.

Yet to be determined. But, if Nola's little brother shows up and one or two young guys from this year take a step forward we'll be in better than average shape.

UF, Vandy and USC's pitching staffs aren't going downhill next year. I like LSU's freshmen starters and they will be very competitive, but I wouldn't annoint them as the best rotation unless they earn it. The game has changed, LSU needs to greatly improve on defense, mentally and physically. Mental gaffes contributed to losses in many games, some errors were just painful to watch coming at the college level.

I was a little surprised that UF shut down Vandy in the SEC title game when Vandy was on a roll having 10-run ruled an opponent and then putting on a bunting masterpiece to crush another opponent. Then again, UF is a complete team that can beat anyone. LSU has a lot of work to do to return to the top tier of the conference.

No matter how its spun in the media I will be very surprised to see him show up at LSU, too much dough will be offered to turn down based on his senior season and velocity improvement.
