Watkins was 0-4. Watkins entered the lineup for Katz.
Katz hit about .415 for the last 7 games.

The question is why is Watkins in the line up. That makes no sense. Katz is the hottest hitting Tiger. Coaches area so bull headed.
Also, 1st & 2nd nobody out...No bunt. STUPID!!!
We had 10 hits and 3 runs. UCI had 4 runs on alot less hits. They play the game fundamentally...We don't. IF you can't bunt, you shouldn't be playing at this level.
Enough said, we're just not good enough....simple as that.

To be fair, people would have said it was crazy to inesrt katz into the lineup before the SEC tourney.....Mainieri's moves like this usually work out, they didn't this time

If Watkins' swing in the 3rd inning is fair people are sitting here saying how genius Mainieri's move was.
You can't judge baseball moves in hindsight. It's meaningless.
My guess is that the combination of the following made Mainieri decide to make this move:
1. Watkins had a huge hit against UCI on Fri.
2. Katz misplayed a couple of balls in left during this regional.
3. Mainieri liked having Watkins at the top more than Katz at the bottom of the lineup.
4. Mainieri had a hunch Watkins would play well
In the end, it was probably a call that had just as good a chance of working out as it did of not working out.

Mainieri said in the pregame he put watkins in because Trey works the count better than most on the team and he wanted someone to do that against Brock.
