We won 59-57 at the old Omni in Atlanta. This was the season prior to the 3 pt shot. Redden had a great game and was the LSU player featured on the cover of SI the next week for the "Final Four" along with a Duke,Louisville and Kansas player.

I was there but I've slept quite a few times in almost 23 years. Redden, Taylor, and Anthony Wilson shot lights out the entire 1986 tournament. John Williams was unbelieveable and Ricky Blanton was scrappy as hell against much bigger guys. If we only had a little more depth we could have won it all.

#1 Warren Morris's homerun...anything else is wrong. Its the only time this has been done to win a championship in either the college or professional ranks.
#2 Billy Cannon's Halloween run...'nough said.
#3 Tommy Hodson to Eddie Fulller...good argument can be made for this being #2 as its lore is legendary.
#4 Marcus Randal to Devery Henderson...poor Kentucky fans!
#5 Cresse's hit to win the CWS...another championship winner and to add to it was Cresse's great story of his contributions to LSU ( batting average and homeruns ) then his slump in the series. You could see the anguish on his face every appearance, as he was trying so, so hard.

This thread is cool, but kind of confusing. "Top Single Play" is subjective.
Best play with or without the magnitude of the game playing a factor?
Warren Morris hit a home run that barely made it over the fence... BUT, it was the CWS WINNER. The play was good, but the situation made it HUGE.
The Bluegrass Miracle was pure luck... Great play?
The fake kick vs SC was a great play, but average individual effort.
I guess I'm saying that the SOS of the games importance might have to be considered, so to speak, when ranking.
The best performance by an LSU TEAM was definitely that '86 basketball squad. Buzzer beaters, great play, inspired defense and beating Georgia Tech in the Omni, then Kentucky to go to the Final 4 was shocking.
frick you Louisville!!
Best play in a huge situation was Marcus Spears INT vs Okie.

not the best play ever, but how about Ross Nelter's tip-in at the buzzer to beat Alabama in the PMAC a few years ago? 03 or 04 i think. that was an incredible moment... the PMAC went INSANE

How about the onside kick against Auburn to start the game after they jumped on the Tiger's Eye and got a penalty? I had never seen an onside kick to start a game before, and it was perfect. The look on Tubby's face was awesome. LSU scored a TD on that drive, and on the kick off after the TD, Michael Clayton ran down the field on special teams and completely leveled Auburn's returner. Guy didn't get up for a while.
I don't remember if it was 2000 or 2001.

I thought the 1987 basketball team was just as incredible...maybe even more so, because that team had far fewer talented players, and they were so damn close to getting back to the Final Four.

WM Homerun was awesome. Bluegrass Miracle was big, but two of my favorites were:
Mauck to Skyler Green to beat UGA in '03 and
Byrd's catch against Auburn last year.

For a top single performance, I go with Kristen Schmidt on her last day at the CWS...barely anyone even watched it, but I don't think any LSU athlete has pulled off what she did in a single day.

if we would have won the game.. the blocked FG against bama but id say WM

No. The run was in 59. The NC was in 58. It helped us beat Ole Miss. That is all.
WM homer has to be No. 1. Spears INT No. 2. Cannon Run No. 3. Hodson to Fuller No. 4. Cresse single --- his only hit of the CWS --- to beat Stanford No. 5.

Why would that have been more significant than the 2005 game, beating Bama in OT, on the road??

The Hester 4th and Goal against Florida should be on the list somewhere.
Also, Stanford beating USC during the Florida @ LSU game 2007 deserves an Honorable Mention for the crowd response it evoked, alone.

#2 Georgetown wasn't it? #1 Illinois had already lost that week so they could have moved to #1. Jackson missed the three pointer and Blanton banked the rebound.
In the Dome.
I was at that game. I was a kid and don't remember much of it, but I remember being there!

#3...Jones to Davis against Ole Miss
#4...Rabb & Cannons stop of Ole Miss Qb at 1
But there are so many great memories and plays

I was there too. We had seats on the floor and I can remember thinking man those guys are tall. I believe Georgetown had Alonzo Morning on that team.

2 outs in the bottom of the ninth for all the marbles! It just doesn't get any better than that.
