Roger the Shrubber, that's why you are sitting @ home thinking about pruning and not up in Indy covering the combine. Get a clue.

I've done that before. In sports where you pass the ball/puck to a known black hole, then you just loaf around because you know the since not even light can escape said player, there's no chance of being included in the play. I've said this before, and I'll say it again, until the way games are broadcast changes, we just won't know. You need coaches' cuts of the game to see what's happening anywhere other than in the pocket. He could have been breakdancing as soon as the ball was snapped and we wouldn't know it unless we went to the game.

When he wasn't the 1st option I did notice he wasn't making a full effort to run the route. When he was first, he did his job.
As many others have stated, he wasn't the first one to 'quit'... and in the end, what chance does the 2nd / 3rd reciever have when JJ is within 100 miles of a football game ?

I have wondered this for the last 3 years, and now with the 2012 recruiting class, it may be coming to pass.

But, how in the world does Les Miles recruit elite talent at the receiver position to LSU? We have totally underutilized the passing game, and just when the offensive production from all of our players started trending upwards, we ditched it all to put in another quarterback.

I don't blame Rueben Randle one bit.

Guy.s lets admit it, LSU didn't show up for the NC game. Fla. could have beat us in that game! Not flaming just disappointed the way Lsu played. I blame Les because he is the caption of the ship. Better days ahead as we will finally have a QB after 4 long years.

Agreed.

Everyone in this thread is blaming everyone but Randle.

If you guys don't think scouts and team execs that are about to spend MILLIONS of dollars to draft a player, aren't going to poke and prod these guys, you're out of your mind.

Think they want a guy that quit on the biggest stage? Think they care if a head coach wants to run the ball 75% of the time, they want a WR that doesn't quit because he didn't get the ball thrown to him?

If Randle goes to Houston, he better get used to running the ball even more and most everything getting thrown towards Johnson, not Randle.

Is he going to quit on Houston?

Great understanding of football. Every player is first EVERY PLAY. And anyone with a bone of impartiality will recall Randle quitting on his route right before half @ Bama and thus not being in a position to catch the ball, only getting fingertips on it. Had he not quit (which he did because it looked like JJ was going to get sacked) he would have been in an easy clear position to catch a TD. Thanks for the three years, but you can't blame McShay for this.

Many more than Randle Quit on the offense. With Miles and Stud not coaching up the players do you blame them? It was a coaches problem not the players, as I saw it.

Even assuming that to be the case, how many of these guys are possible first round picks? I love this analysis -- everyone else did it so it is OK.

Did McShay say anything about Les Miles quitting on the LSU receivers in the last two games of the year
Pretty sure McShay doesn't give a rat's arse about a coach. He isn't eval'ing a gameplan, he's looking at the player's attitude- especially under adversity.

If a WR is loafing when he doesn't think the ball is coming his way, that's a legit concern to anyone considering investing millions in that WR.

With modern media, everyone is watching everything. The NFL coaches have the tapes. If they determine he quit, then that's all that matters. I doubt they take McShay solely on his word, but may take a second look to see if what he says has a point.

Some players may have given up during the NC game, and that will surely hurt them more personally than it hurt LSU. Doesn't matter though what we or the players say, it is what it looked like that counts.

That's why you tell you kid to sprint to his position in baseball, or hustle down the court, etc, no matter what the score. You never know who is watching....

good post.

all i can go on is what he says and he said he did not quit.

i looked upthe quote from mcshay and he said he felt he quit cause he was saying they need to throw him the ball. i dont know how he got he quit out of that, looks like someone who wanted to help his team but i could be wrong.

if you go by his body motion it would look like he quit every game. JMO though

I think McShay got confused when he saw the look on RR's face. McShay just doesn't know him like we do.

I'm sure he did. RR knew the ball wasn't going to be thrown and he was basically a blocking dummy. RR has never liked Miles sense his freshman year. A former coach at Bastrop told me LSU never had a chance with Devall and I asked why. His exact words was "Rueben".

The dude has always been a bit of a sourpuss. Remember the drama from him while he was still in high school over the fact that Miles was recruiting Andre Debose too?
