I don't see a problem with a rookie seeking some guidance during the first year of being in the league.
A guy like Dez Bryant is a perfect example of someone who could have benefitted from someone kind of looking out for him early on.

Mathieu has a serious problem and will soon come into more cash then he's ever had in his life. He needs a lot of structure in his life, hopefully he will get it. Too bad some young girl didn't tie him down in marriage first.

I agree completely. The thing mr tigrlee isnt remembering, is that he probably grew up in a house with a household income of 60, 000 to 120,000 dollars anually, to making in that same range as ab adult.
little bit of difference in someone that grew up without a lot of money entering into a world with a lot of money. Some 21 year old guys need a little guidance when that kind of fame and fortune come their way

Dez Bryant turned out alright. He was a top 5 receiver in the league last year.

Hes pretty much settled down with a beautiful woman. Also, if his bad problem is his marijuana "addiction", I think he will be fine

tm7's adopted parents (aunt and uncle) are middle class

I'd like to see him end up in Denver,San Fran,Seattle or Pittsburgh.

I know they do ok. But doing ok and nobody knowing who you are, and suddenly having a couple of million dollars and half the world knowing who you are is almost unfathomable.

I don't have a problem with any adult realizing they need help/support and seeking it out or relying on it. That's smart. What's not smart is to deny you have a problem...and only time will tell if Mathieu really understands he has a problem and actually learns to control it (and like many here, if he pulls it together, it will be a surprise to me).
I can agree till the cows come home that by the time you're an adult, you shouldn't *need* that kind of help. But reality is, all too many adults aren't magically blessed with the same emotional/judgement tools that others have. Some people never grow up...it's been that way forever, and it will be that way forever and I see examples of that in real life everyday.
I'm old enough to know that 'adult' is an age and a state of mind, and all too often, people don't arrive at both at the same time. If Matheiu wants to play and stay in the league, he's got to figure out how to get the state of mind part down quick, and if he seeks guidance in figuring that out, it's his business, not mine.
He's a Tiger, and I'll pull as hard for him as any former LSU player trying to make it in the league, and there's very little a player can do to shake my support. Hell, just based on what I witnessed as an undergrad, if I tried to base my support of an LSU athlete based on personal value judgements, I'd be an extremely bored fan.

Great post rosie
I can't understand people on this board. Knocking a player that wants to get a support system around him so he won't screw up again.

Well there you have it.
I don't understand a grown man that feels the need to have a "support staff" to keep his arse out of trouble.
It's so comical it's sad.

I don't see why there is a problem or it is so sad that it's comical
There are support systems all over the place, why can't a grown man, realizing he has demons to face, get help if he feels like he will need it? I think that's really accountable of the guy.
I think it's safe to say that you have never come into a position where EVERYONE knows who you are. And I can also safely assume that you will not be signing a multi-million dollar contract next year.
I don't think having a support system all throughout his career will be good for him, it'll be more of a crutch than anything. But let him be surrounded by this for his first year or two to strengthen himself. There is nothing wrong with that in my eyes.
Everyone is human, this applies to some more than others.

Couldn't resist taking a gander at the 2011 highlight video that is embedded in your link. What a preternaturally great season he had. Waste.
