You still don’t know what an RPO is.

Read the damn article you just linked

quote:

At the end of the day," Moorhead said, "what it came down to (was) if you hand off the ball to a tailback and there's an unblocked defender at the line of scrimmage, there's really nothing that running back can do except try to make him miss or run him over."

quote:

Teams like LSU have success with zone-read runs, when quarterbacks have the option to hand off the ball to a running back or keep it himself, depending on what a particular defender does. Defenses sometimes counter that option by blitzing an extra defender — that seventh player.

We ran both. The plays where Finley ran were read options. You are so fricking stupid

Naw son. We are not army/navy or Ga Tech

We’re an RPO team - and newsflash QB’s run from RPO’s and the threat of the QB holding the ball and taking off is a big part of RPO’s, did you not see Joey B last season????? He ran it when he felt like it, and gashed them constantly.

A true freshmen in his first game made 1 bad throw , the moment NEVER looked to big for him and he adds just enough of a running threat that the defense has to honor it. ????????????????????????????????. Well done TJ Finely. @LSUfootball

LOL - Joe Brady’s offense is RPO.

Literally not a debate. Hahahahahahahhahahaha

PBean

Those are simply inside zone runs with a block on a backside linebacker instead of the backside end. On this play call, the Quarterback knows he can read the end and pull it.

That’s more of a triple option because at that point you’d have to throw horizontally and not downfield

Exactly. It’s hard to throw vertical on the second read because you’ll almost certainly have OL downfield by then. I’ve seen it a few times, Nick Marshall v. Bama to win the game a few years back comes to mind. Bama was in some type of hard cover 2 or cloud and Marshall flipped it over the corners head. I think Auburn has some lineman pretty far downfield too if I remember correctly

Joe Brady ran RPOs like 20% of the time in 2019 so no.

Truth is we run RPO probably 10% of the plays. Last night it was higher because it’s easier for a young Quarterback than to drop back and read a defense (what burrow was so good at)

Bama probably runs the most RPO in the country but even they have slowed down on it. When they had Tua it was every single normal down (1st and 2nd down)

That is a run pass option, i.e. he passed it. Wow

Don’t be lazy in your own thread. Read my previous posts where I explain the difference.

Here it is:
quote:

There are plays in which a QB reads a DL for pull or give, then if he pulls, the QB has the option to read a second/third level defender to either throw or run (out of the pocket). This is essentially triple option, but instead of pitch it’s a throw downfield. I can’t remember seeing LSU run this at all in the last two years, but I’ve seen it from Oklahoma, Auburn, etc

Burrow did it once or twice last year on a quick slant

They aren’t putting this in TJ Finley’s playbook though. Lol

Its an RPO dummies. Rant away rant!!!

quote:

Keeping Your Options Open The other thing the Panthers have incorporated more of as the season has gone on is the option game – this is something that we thought would be made more of under Brady given the offense he ran at LSU. While Bridgewater is never going to be a 1,000-yard rusher, he has shown this season that he can hurt teams on the ground; by offering the threat of him keeping the ball, the Panthers are able to get a numbers advantage when they otherwise wouldn’t have one

Bridgewater probably needs to run the ball with a certain frequency in order to make the edge defender respect the fact that he might run the ball, but this play works mostly because of the doubt in the defender’s mind rather than because of Bridgewater’s prowess as a rusher. LSU extended this a step further by including a lot of screen and quick-pass options on the read-side of the play to create what is effectively a triple option to hold the flat defender if Bridgewater does hold the ball.

Bold part meaning RPO.

LOL.

Not 100% true as there are Read Option RPOs.
But I do get what you're saying.

Well, if him being a running threat is the reason, we should look past TJ to Max, who is several steps faster.

The rant arguing Joe Brady NOT running RPO’s but read options is the rant at its finest.

And you think Ensminger added this to the game plan for a true freshman not only taking his first snap but getting his first start?

Do you realize that the read option and RPO are two different concepts?
