To be a good college coach, you must be a maniac arse kicker. Signed, Pete Carroll .........
I agree with this.

what i've noticed is the yellers like Cullen spend more time yellin and "motivating" then they do coaching and actually teaching, which the non yellers probably do more of. Now Saban would yell IF you weren't doing something right and it was something he'd spent time on actually teaching it. Point is, he was a teacher first, not a yeller. An idiot like Cullen or Orgeron yells first, worries about teaching later.
A tough coach isn't so much of a yeller as someone who pushes the team and has high expectations for them, and demands they play to the best of their ability, not meet some unrealistic standard.
Bear said he was tough on his players and it worked for him, Dodd was easy on them and they responded well to it and won alot of games.

Great point... All great coaches are great teachers first. They only blow up when you make a mistake that they've worked on multiple times. The LSU defense isn't getting the teaching. In the Ole Miss game the DBs were looking at each other after plays like they were all lost. If you teach and expect excellence, then that is what you will get. The offense will get better if Miles will leave Crowton alone. The defense needs a new face and scheme.

"...What if when you were at work and you messed on something the boss comes in and in front of everybody starts yelling at you. You seriously think that will make you want to do it better?... Just get annoying."
You sound like the Alabama players that Saban had last year. Complaining about the tough demands and the discipline. FYI big time football requires big time sacrifice. If you don't like the demands and pressure, go play somewhere else. I'm not suggesting screaming at a player for every mistake. I'm demanding accountability for every play.

discipline doesn't involve yelling and screaming.
Now I'm all for some arse chewing on to the field during the game but there is a time and place for it.

I agree. Just ask the Arkansas kicker Tejada. Petrino screamed at him for missing some kicks against ULM earlier in the year, and he hasn't been the same since. Coaches have to know each player and how they will respond to different methods of correction.

goo point nhsj012!
RE: quote "im not saying the players couldn't use a good yelling at but thats where the assistant coaches come it such as a lively dc."
Remember the ole adage: Praise in public and criticize/coach in private! I think that's probably what's going on here.
Most laid back head coaches have an axe man, or they have a good coach (them) / bad coach (assistant) who kicks tail when it's needed. That way the player can still maintain a good relationship with the HC and go to them if need be. Jeff Fisher in Tennessee had that in Greg Williams DC who moved on has hasn't really had that great combo just like it since.
Les has emotion, and a lot of it as we saw during his "have a great day" talk to the reporters, but when dealing with younger players at skilled positions like Lee at QB, you can do more harm than good by screaming at them.

I'm not upset about the coaches' demeanor on the sideline. Every coach has their own style. I think it hard for some fans to understand why Miles isn't blowing up when the team is playing so poorly. I have to give Miles credit because he understands how to handle emotion in game situations. I think the real problem this year is that coaches and players were reading too many press clippings. I think Miles lost a little of the edge that he had the last few years and just assumed that we would just continue to blow people off the line. This year has taught him a lesson. He will respond... I just hope it is with a new DC.
