Tiger fans saying the early loss is a good thing...

I was listening to Dick Bellaweeuh's joke of a post-game show on the Big 870 here in El Campo, and a lot of Tiger fans who called in were making the point that the loss this early in the season was a good thing.
For years, in fact going back to 2003, LSU has won their season opener, whether it was against an also-ran or a Top 10 opponent. Last season, LSU started the season 7-0, and there were posters here claiming if LSU would have lost to Florida, they could have looked at themselves with more criticism, and with that criticism they could have improved in necessary areas that would have allowed them to play better against Alabama, Arkansas and Ole Miss.
In 2005, LSU lost to a weak Tennessee team, but really responded after that, finishing the remainder of the regular season undefeated, thrusting them into the SEC Championship Game.
In 2003, LSU lost to a Florida team that was not a Top 15 team, but picked up the pieces and won every game thereafter, winning a national championship.
In 2001, LSU lost a tough game to an overachieving Ole Miss team, but rebounded very well, winning six consecutive games, including a win over a tough Arkansas team, a virtual SEC West Championship Game, an SEC Championship Game, and a Sugar Bowl.
Could this Wisconsin loss help rally the troops and maybe prevent what could have been an upset loss to Auburn or Florida, giving the coaching staff a better assessment of where this team really is, or does the recent upset simply mean LSU is overrated and we should go ahead and expect losses to Ole Miss, Alabama, and Arkansas again this year?

If I had to bet . . .

We're overrated, soon to be unranked and headed to the Poo bowl.

I do believe LSU will go on a run before the bama game. The team can rebound, but it's going to take a lot of heart from the players, and better coaching from the players.

Miles has won way to many games when the team look unprepared and sloppy but a lot of people didn't care (even the media) because LSU won.

Answer the question of why they didn't show up if you need to know anything about what will happen next. I, for one, am not encouraged by what I saw. The culture that has to exist for that to happen cannot be fixed from week 1 to week 2 or week 6 or 12. It requires a complete stripping of the old culture and painstaking process of building a new and better one. Something only achieved in CFB by changing the coaching staff. IE (Texas)
Can they win 8 or 9, probably so but as soon as they face the challenging tasks the same thing will happen due to the lack of desire to be great rather than good.

The way we played is consistent with all of our past offensive struggles and likely foreshadows more losses to come. Had we played well and lost to an even better performance, it may be a different story.

Well, we're not getting it from the coaches.

It doesn't matter. Barring an absolutely HUGE 180 degree turn-around from what we saw Saturday, all of the "silver lining" talk is pointless.
What we saw against Wisky was not an offense that just needs to iron out some kinks. It was an offense in total disarray.
LSU will not compete for the SEC - let alone national - title with that offense. I don't care how many yards LF manages to rack up.

The issue isn't the players or the effort. It's the lack of preparation and creativity on offense.
Last night FSU couldn't get Dalvin Cook going in the 1st half, Jimbo made adjustments at half time and gave his QB some easy throws to build his confidence and get in a rhythm. He also got the ball to Cook, but through the passing game in space. FSU made it easy for their athletes to simply be better than Ole Miss. LSU would have continued to run the power dive until Leonard broke a big one or until they simply had to throw it.
Not to mention- when Les Miles teams loose, they fade badly. Incredibly soft mentally.
They'll best the cupcakes and State with relative ease. I fully expect them to lose to either UF or AU on the road. When that happens all of these talented juniors and seniors are going to pack it in and get ready for the draft. I honestly believe Bama will win by 3 TDs and Miles will be fired that Sunday.

Maybe but I say no. The product on the field was the product of a entire off season. That isn't going to be fixed in the next few weeks. It may get some what better, but not where it needs to be for Nov.

It was good for me because I can find more fun and interesting things to do with my fall weekends this year. Driving into town would have been a stretch for me for a few games this year from a scheduling point of view, this makes the decision way easier for me. Not going out of my way to come watch this shite.

if the early loss was to a top 10 team and our offense looked somewhat alive i'd agree
but we lost to an unranked average big slow team and our offense is garbage

the reason everybody sees the writing on the wall is because under this head coach we can never make adjustments mid season. it is always we will fix things at the end of the year. well, we did not have a meltdown until november last year. this year it is in september and everybody knows what that means. more coming!

It's good in the sense that I will be less distracted and can more easily focus on work. That's about it.
