Someone posted that same thing the other day. I never really thought about that before. Didn't Florida start the "Gator Bait" chant first?

Didn't really think of it that way. The tiger bait argument is fricking stupid anyway.

The reasoning behind tiger bait is regardless of the story behind the "bait," it is going to get fricked up by the big bad tiger. Since most teams fans have animal mascots, it works (sans other teams with tiger mascot).

a better question would be why do we sing "hold that tiger"?

when i was young i thought everyone was saying "hold'em tigers". the first time i was told it was "hold that tiger" i told the person they were wrong... and stupid.

Its kind of like the "shark bait" they use on great whites to get a big bite, but they have no intention of catching the beast.

but not like the shark bait they use to catch the sharks, cut off their fins, and throw them back in the ocean to die right

Are you serious? Maybe you should have read the whole post, let alone the whole sentence.

how exactly does

explain why we say "hold that tiger"?

why would we want to hold that tiger. shouldn't we want that tiger to go out and tear shite up?

It's simple. Something goes after the bait - just like LSU goes after their opponents.

Tiger Rag is a song that was created independently and adopted by LSU (and many other schools) as a fight song.

It's bait whether it's on the hook or in the bucket. Either way, they are dead meat.

I think that is the point. No one can really hold a tiger and if they try to...Well...Get the picture?

We, the fans, have a bunch of Tigers. When we are amongst other fans, we call them Tiger Bait because we plan to feed them to OUR Tigers.

That simple.
