Brian Broussard confirmed on twitter about an hour ago that there is no lottery for tickets. Goes purely by point ranking.

i should get my two but it annoys me how my friends get them and just sell them when there are people that want to go to the game.

the cutoff in 2007 was about TAF3150 but we only got 16,000 tickets then. The Sugar Bowl office says we get 17,500 this time so it would make sense that 4000 is going to be around the cutoff this time

The LSU email says 17,000 but on the Sugar Bowl site they say each school gets 17,500 for the Sugar Bowl game. I couldn't find a solid number for the BCS Title Game though.

So someone clarify this for me. Is it better if you are lower than 4000? My father requested tickets (been a season ticket holder for 15 years) but he's not sure what his number is. Just curious how it all works.

Gotta be below 4000 apparently. If he doesn't know his rank, then probably not below this number.

He bought tickets around 1995? I bet he got the pick of the stadium around then.
Tenure as a season ticket holder has no bearing. It's all about the cash. How much money have you donated to the school? If he has tickets with a tradition fund donation that will help a little bit as the money from that gets converted to points. One needs to donate at least at the $100 level to barely tread water. The next level up is $1000 per year. This is in addition to any tickets or tradition fund costs.

Anyone have an idea of how many points you would need to have to be in the top 500 or 1000? Just wondering.

Depends on where your seats are. I donate $400 per year, plus have 5 seats in the South Endzone and have dropped 338 spots from the 2007 to the 2011 bowl ranking. I would think I'm above average donor, but I'm falling at an average of 85 per year. Those in the east and west lowers must be passing me by. I guess once they all pass me I'll start to level out and hold my ground.

This.
We've had tickets for over 50 years and just started getting post season tickets in the last couple years. We never donated but have tradition fund seats so the points are finally adding up.
