Someone indicated that Yorke has looked good on defense. Honestly I believe many of his problems have to do with his size. If you notice he can dig so long as it doesn’t require him to move laterally. He seems to move forward well. On several balls that have been thrown to him last night it appears though that he doesn’t stretch well. He throws his arm straight and waves it into his glove which in my view is problematic and has resulted in a pass ball. Once last night on an error to one of our pitchers. But I have noticed the same thing from balls thrown by Arrambide. But even if the ball is thrown bad you still have to move laterally and catch the ball or as has resulted men move to 2nd or extra bases on the error. It’s also worth noting that Yorke seldom attempts a tag on a runner attempting to return to first base from a taken lead. In my view if the pitcher throws the ball to you at first that you owe it to the pitcher and team to put your attempted tag on the runner. Every time. It’s frankly hard to understand and sad to think that a man who plays baseball at this level can be so large. Is LSU aggressively trying to help this man. He isn’t slow for his size. And there truly may be great potential.

Big part of the problem. They missed badly on the transfers they were counting on to contribute. It’s a rarity for Jay to miss badly on multiple guys in a cycle. shite happens. You can bet he is learning from this failure.

This is LSU baseball. We don’t put together a top 50 lineup or even a top 20 lineup We want the best.
I’m sure JJ saw something in each of these players, or he wouldn’t have brought them in, but even the best coaches make mistakes.
Now there’s a lot of baseball left and the fog may lift, but right now we have a bunch of confused, overmatched hitters.

these numbers are obviously not good. However, we that follow baseball at all levels understand that sometimes streaks happen that are good, where whatever we hit bloopers that fall in gaps, and there are times when we hit rockets and they are right a fielder or the fielder makes incredible defensive plays....and at the key moment in the game.
The latter seems to be where LSU is at the moment. For instance, in last night's game, in the 8th inning, LSU was down 3-2. The leadoff hitter walked. Then the next hitter ripped a very hard ground shot very close to the 3rd base bag. The Okie 3rd baseman made a great backhand snag and commenced a double play. That is an example of things going poorly. In good time, that ball could have skirted past the glove into the corner and LSU would have had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, down 3-2. Very good chance LSU would have scored to tie or go ahead.
Lots of other very hard hit balls in recent games that were right at the fielders, and the other team's flares were base hits.
Another example is LSU is leading Vandy by 2 and is one pitch away from winning the series. But, the Vandy hitter didn't just hit a long fly ball for the final out, he hit it out of the park.
That kind of stuff is when a team is going bad.
I expect LSU to have a turnaround, much like last year, and things. start going really good for LSU.
We can only hope that is in the latter part of the season when the stretch run to Omaha begins.
We all know baseball has its twist and turns, and we just have to suffer through this stretch, and hope for better as the season progresses.

We had physical specimens doing the splits to snare balls and with fantastic all around defense there the last 4 years.
Here is the breakdown by year. Yorke already has as many errors as Tre in 2023. But honestly, comparing anyone to Tre, particularly in 2023, is a bit unfair, considering how spectacular he was that year.
2022 - Tre Morgan - .990 - 4 errors
2023 - Tre Morgan - .990 - 3 errors
2024 - Jared Jones - .991 - 4 errors
2025 - Jared Jones - .986 - 7 errors (I seem to recall at least one of those may have been at 3rd)
2026 - Zach Yorke - .981 - 3 errors
