Offense gets one first down prior to this A8M drive and it’s over. Game was lost by the offense.

Every defense in America is expected to keep the other team from the Endzone in that situation. Especially a defense with 3 All Americans and a $2 million coach.

I came here to say exactly this.

Considering an injury to our most prolific pass rusher in the first game I'd say that's pretty stout

No LSU is 29 even after the ATM game. And they are 22 in ppg for the season. You do realize before the atm 7 over times that our ppg was around #11 (I can't remember exactly but it was around that). Our D hadn't given up more than 30 to any team all year either.
Care to guess what the offense was ranked in those categories before the ATM game? Hell even after 72 points were only 45 in ppg and 79 in total offense.
Seriously amazes me how some of you can't put all of this together. Did you even watch a game this season besides AtM? I'm not saying Aranda never screws up but saying the defense is mediocre is just insane considering what the other side of the ball looked like in any game we played with an above average defense. It's even more insane when the stats don't even support your statement either.

People forget the defense came out and stomped arse. And gave us a TD.
If O puts someone back there who can actually catch, and we don’t hand the ball off to A&M inside our 30, we win that game.
If we have some nuts and call that need RB pass play when we held A&M to a field
Goal we win.

Where did I say our defense was mediocre? Where did I say the offense was good?
The OP pointed out that we had 3 All Americans on our defense and I added that we pay our DC the most money in the county. I’ve seen far more dominant defenses at LSU in the past.

Hell we could have ended it in regulation but the last Offensive drive was the same scared play calling. Just run it and put it all on the defense. We can't even trust the offense to put a close game away for us yet it's the defensive staff that isn't living up to expectations. Our T.O.P. was pretty bad this year too. Barely in the top 50.
