As Skip always says, you have to play well, but you also need good baseball fortune. They had extremely bad baseball fortune in Omaha, especially in game 1
That you smoke?

Eh we caught some breaks in the early innings and shite on them. We were also lucky that game was even within reach after Glenn's 3rd.
They hit like shite in both games, it wasn't bad fortune.
And I'm not sure if its Paul or Javi, but we've shown some of the same stupid plate discipline issues for a few years now

The coach gets paid to lead, motivate, teach, strategize and develop these players.
Today I saw a team that was leaderless, making foolish decisions, not playing to their potential as well as strategies over the course or the two games that left us all scratching out heads. Sure the players had their share or failures and they should be called out for it and worked with to correct these issues. But it all goes down to CPM. He didn't do his job in Omaha. It isn't even debatable.

If he has any brains.Hell all ball players have hitting coaches from little boys to to the allstars in MLB

This isn't football. PM can't go hit for rhymes or Bergman. The guys didn't execute in the spots presented to them. End of story.

Amen! What I saw over the last two games from Marineri, it was like he had never made it to the CWS before - inexcusable. You have to manufacture runs at that stadium. Gorilla ball is dead and gone, pending rules changes.

he couldn't pick up the phone and talk to coaches that have been at the new park. I love our coaches, but I hate them as well. The things they do just have me scratching my head. Between Les and Maneri, I don't know which one confuses me more.

As someone who played college baseball I think it has more to do with the overall mental approach than it does with fundamental hitting.
The situation appeared to big for these Tigers. That's on PM.
some coaches take the approach of continuing to try to hit the ball hard behind in the count. IMO this was one of the biggest issues this year, on the curve that Jacoby struck out on today, his head was completely out of the pitch, he had no chance of hitting that ball.

I wish he would demonstrate it in clutch situations.
Like coaching JaCoby through a serious slump and into one of the hottest hitters in the country to finish the season?
Can't have it both ways...

I have not read the whole thread but I will add my $.02. PM played hunches more than probability. He refused to sacrifice batters in bunt situations. He cannot bat for the players but he can put them in a better situation to succeed. The batters were also overly aggressive in hitter counts and less patient early in the count.
The hitters continued to try and pull the outside pitch which either results in a ground ball short or weak pop fly......we saw plenty of that in 2 games.
There is a lot to be said about going 0-2 in 4 of the last 6 appearances in Omaha.

That is what I am thinking. I swear this is like Miles and the offense
LSU was 2nd in the SEC in BA and runs scored this year.

like what Weaver and DNaquin have to say... you guys are correct... PM and Javi have a problem with the mental approach to the game and their approach to strategies they attempt to use, imo

Blame Mainieri. The buck stops with him. For the 2nd straight game, he failed to make any adjustments.
The rant-ards are out in full force!!! LLH your a f*cking idiot PM did make an adjustment, Glenn got in trouble early and he took him out, that is called an adjustment idiot!!! So what you wanted him to make an adjustment in the line-up, the same line-up that he won the SEC Championship, the Regional and Super Regional with? You go with the guys who got you there, if they don't perform up to par than that is the way the ball bounces, but you don't change a successful line-up after one game!!!!
What people don't get is, it was 2 fielding errors that cost us the game against UCLA. So now you want to shite can the Freshman of the year and one of the best catchers in the SEC. Get over it, things like this happen in baseball. It sucks but it does happen.
Quit showing your ignorance!!!!
