He sure doesn’t fit the eye test as a really good looking baseball player/shortstop….. I know that’s not always the tell all, but he just doesn’t project confidence in me that he is a top notch athlete

Morgan saved a lot of errors from him last year.

You guys are fn nuts! JT isn't going anywhere. Sure he will throw it around and Tre will save him on the majority of his throws. Expect him to get replaced late in the games by Cranny. He will make some plays in field and screw some up but offensively will offset his defense until it doesn't.

Knocking off the rust after recovering the past 6 months. He’s getting live reps now, will be fine. Still a great defensive SS and the bat is coming around.

Merrifield probably best suited backup at short… but Thompson ain’t goin nowhere.

I definitely see your concerns. But… All I know is the coaches have seen these young men way more than we have. They’ve watched these young men through all offseason and all scrimmages. Thompson was pretty damn good last year at SS. In fact, everyone on this board thought last year if Thompson would come around on offense he’d be a complete player. We all saw how good he was at SS last year. I do know from playing ball all the way through high school and coaching youth travel baseball for 10 years that sometimes your best players go through slumps both offensively and defensively but if you stick with them it pays off. The coaches know what he’s made of and what everyone else is made of on both sides of the ball. Baseball is nothing like football when it comes to consistency. Slumps are real for even the best. If he keeps struggling, I trust a change will be made. I know that JJ knows way more than I do. So me personally… I’ll give JJ the benefit of the doubt to make the right call in the long run.

I hold my breath whenever Thompson or Merrifield load up to make a throw to Morgan III. Hopefully they can work through things in time for conference play, but I don't expect a dramatic turn around in a positive way.

I see Major League athleticism and tools with erratic performance. If he smooths out you could be looking at a superstar. He has great power at the plate, and that arm!
