The BK thing is a red herring. The better question is, why would a college athlete be so interested in ensuring that nobody else can wear the jersey number they were? It's completely insane how people are acting like this is normal behavior. The tradition of retiring numbers (either formally or informally) is always done by the school itself at its own discretion

Pickett wanted 5. What was Kelly supposed to do? Tell him he can’t have it and have Pickett go somewhere else? Can’t fault Kelly.

Well Jayden is saying he was told his number wouldn’t be ever given out. Who do you think told him that? Mike Denbrock? Obviously Kelly thought he would’ve retired at LSU with multiple National Championships
