I have been very hard on Les Miles from the beginning. Ever since he tried to call a timeout against Tennessee in 2005 after an interception, I thought he was a guy in over his head. His record at Okie State never impressed me or his coaching demeanor. All the events since then have confirmed my biggest fear. Bertman got cheap after Saban left and hired a 2nd tier guy.

HOWEVER, this Saturday gives him an opportunity to shut every media outlet, angry fan (including me), and program doubter up. He has the opportunity right in front of him. I feel as Tiger Fans we talk about "must wins" and then excuse the poor performance later. I ask many of you to really look at this game as a defining moment in Les Miles' tenure. Please don't excuse anything that happens this weekend. If it's good, embrace that as well. At the Swamp this Saturday, a place that Miles has never won, let's see if Miles can prove everyone wrong. I would love a story of redemption for a man who has taken a lot of heat.

I think even with a win our fanbase will still be pissed!! We have one of the most unrealistic fan bases in the country!

It won't be enough. If every play fails to score, the Miles bashers will be all over him.

Agreed

Winning solves everything, especially against Florida, Sabama, Ole Myth, Auburn and Ar Kansas.

Everything can be taken care of with more wins. Even Miles knows that. There will always be the haters but if he is to redeem himself from this past Saturday a "good" win over Florida is a start.

I really don't believe that. As someone who has been around LSU fans along time, the rant is not always a great representation of the football knowledge that is out there. There are many fans that have always asked that Miles play to win and not "not to lose." I think that's been the most frustrating thing. Barring the clock management issues, think about Kentucky in 2007 when Charles Scott had 99 yards at half, and then never touched the ball until late in the 4th. It's decisions like that, have grown to irritate the "true" tiger fans. There doesn't seem to ever be any explanation.

But I always try to take things with a grain of salt. Uncommon Cents, would you agree with me that this weekend is a defining moment?

I think a win against Florida will calm the storm for a few weeks...With a win over Florida and a soft opponnent before Auburn (Auburn plays Ark)...I think the schedule sets up nicely for LSU to make an October run in preparation for bama.

Brantely being hurt is interesting. That may give us an advantage on Defense.

I think the fans would cut Miles and staff some slack if they lost to great teams like the top four or five in the SEC while playng error free ball, clock management and and interesting and varied offense.

Unfortunately most of our interesting games against equal teams comes as a result of Tiger mistakes and misques.

The blowouts of Sun Belt teams will always remain uninteresting but Les and crew should use them as a tune up tool. Instead we continue to see the same silly mistakes.

Play like they are capable against the top and things will improve.

To me this says it all. Most championship caliber teams need a little luck to survive an ugly win or two(see ALA vs TENN last year). What is the most frustrating to fans is the we have championship caliber talent, but on the field we see it translate to coronary-inducing sub-par performances against far inferior teams.

During the games, Les should just hand the headset over to someone with some game management ability. Let's check egos and hyper-conservative gameplans at the door and call some plays that stretch the field and give our athletes a chance to make plays. I don't care who makes the calls, as long as they are made. This staff is a team and will succeed or fail accordingly. Now that Ridley has established himself as a force between the tackles it really should be a no brainer to start airing the ball out. Let's eliminate drive-killing penalties. Let's play sixty minutes of quality football and then I think fans will be able to live with any outcome.

A couple of things. First, someone mentioned that Miles has never won at the Swamp. This is only his third game there, so it's not like a long streak of losing there. Saban never beat Florida in Tiger Stadium either, including one against the Zooker.

Second, I think everyone is putting way too much stock in this one game. Frankly, this game as far as winning the SEC goes isn't that big a deal for us, one way or the other. The fan base is just setting itself up for a huge crap sandwich, win or lose. If we win, then the next loss is going to be amplified that much more. If we lose, it's the end of the world.

After this game, we have 4 games against SEC West foes left. Each one is bigger than this game.

Yep. Suddenly Auburn seems like a huge hill to climb. WTH did they come from?
