There were only a couple of problems with the OP, TBH. The most glaring was writing off a coach who was winning less than 3 full years into his tenure, IMO. Too small a sample size.
There were som cautionary indicators and the hire itself was shaky. The results now do not change that fact. They are the notable exception. An exception I am particularly happy about.
Honestly, I’m so giddy right now I don’t understand how you guys can come on here to be so negative and rub other people’s noses in it, just be happy and celebrate.

It wasn't the posters that doubled the hire, they had lots of reasons to. It was the posters who derided and ridiculed him that were so disgusting. They are the ones who are being called out. They need to apologize before getting their fan card back.

They like to use terms like “nobody could have expected this level of success” or “it was a bad hire at the time”...they still don’t realize they are the ones that look stupid.
It was a really ugly time. You say something like “hey he’s the coach whether we like it or not, let’s give him a chance” and get accused of being a hired plant by Ponamsky to sunshine pump on the rant

Here's the thing. No one knew. Everyone guessed. Some were gonna get it right and some wrong. I'll say this, CEO has impressed me so much since he got here. He committed to fixing the problem. Getting the best offensive minds he could. First one didnt work? Scrap it immediately and try something better. We got so used to the offensive issues not being addressed around here that it made a DL coach hire irritating to a lot of folks. I wont bash them for it. One universal thing I see here, everyone is passionate about the school and wants SUCCESS. Dont matter who it comes from in the end.

Anyone with a brain does not get stuck on one event, you keep looking. OM was beyond horrible, but his interim at SC was very promising. The way he turned them around was impressive. So looking at his body of work, I was cautiously optimistic about the hire. Which is more than I had for Jimbo.

Spot on. While very few could have predicted Orgerons level of success, showing anything that could be described as cautious optimism would get you ridiculed. You frickers can kiss my arse.
I didnt think O hire would be a complete disaster for a couple of reasons. First, dude is a top notch recruiter. Even if he wasnt successful on the field, the roster wouldnt be bare for his potential replacement.
Second, he was forthright about his mistakes, and acted quickly to fix them... Failing to do so is what got our previous coach fired.
And finally, there werent any other available coaches who were CLEARLY a better option than him at the time, and due to any lack of demand for O, we got him relative cheap.
This isn't a restrospective or unreasonable opinion. I think a lot of people were pissed at the situation, and at Alleva, and decided to take it out on O. The vitriol directed towards O was fricking shameful.
I hope these threads get bumped all year.
