IMO, it wasn’t Clowney or any of those others guys who skipped. It was Jaylon Smith, a top 10 pick, who decided to play in his final bowl game and tore both his ACL and MCL on one freak play.

Fell to the second round and lost millions of guaranteed money. Also sat out his rookie season.

Breaking news: Sometimes Life Isn't Fair.

We should just all avoid anything that could potentially limit our future earning. Right?

Easy to say when you're passing up that raise to $50k/year because you don't want to lose more money after taxes.

We should probably avoid things where the risk far outweighs the reward.

What the reward is is up to the player.

White seems to put a high value on this, greedy less so.

Who am I to Judge them.

Yes. We should. That’s the point of capitalism.

There are risks involved. If it is financial security that can be addressed with an insurance policy. Perhaps the bowls could provide a blanket policy for all players in the game. It is easy to project potential future earnings/loss due to an injury sustained in the game.

I agree Jaylon got hurt financially by the bowl game. Several players were helped though. This situation is not an unsolvable problem.

Did you forget about Willis McGahee? He tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL in the game against Ohio State.

Yea true, but that was the National Championship. Not just any bowl game. Still very unfortunate.

And? The risk of injury does not increase or decrease based on what bowl game you're playing in

If bowl games become the coming out party for underclassmen that's ok

It's very difficult to actually collect the full loss of value.

Not really. Jaylon lost around $14m and his insurance payout was $700k. They don't give you the full value of what you would actually have lost. You set a hypothetically contract in the insurance agreement and say "if I receive a deal less than x, insurance co pays the difference between that hypothetical deal and what I got."

Why would they do that? The insurance policy that Greedy would require would be between 10-15 million dollars. The potential monetary loss to the Fiesta bowl due to Greedy not playing is no where near that amount of money. So from a business perspective it makes no sense for Bowls to do that.

The risk is there to be hurt in any game. If the players are risk adverse they shouldn't play in meaningless games at all. Greedy shouldn't have played after the BAMA game using that logic. (The risk is real and the logic is solid BTW)
