re: This season is exactly why 6-1-1 needs to die

I think it really comes down to this:
The permanent cross division opponent is terrible in this current setup. It is a near crime to only be playing in Athens or Knoxville once every 12 years or so. Not to mention it strengthens the inequities that were already built into the system because there is only one other cross divisional game to balance it out.
Alabama needs to choose between two options and I am fairly positive that they are the ones holding this up. Either they give up their outdated rivalry that no one cares about besides them with UT or they, along with Auburn, can move to the east and swap with some sort of combination of Florida/SC/Missouri/Kentucky/Vanderbilt.
My favorite part of this feud is if anyone complains that Alabama gets to play Tennessee every year they call them pussies, but if anyone suggests they go to the East with Auburn they talk about how hard that division will be and how unfair it is that LSU would be in a weakened West.

Which is irrelevant because we schedule OOC be choice and will always play Bama. I cold have included Florida in there because they were pretty bad last year.
I do think the scheduling is imperfect now, but its because of how long it'll take us to play through the conference

Can't wait till next year when the LSU plays both of the east co-champs and the gumps play UT and UK with new coaches.

It is just sad that we can't have an open discussion about this without having to hear the "we scared" bullshite from the other side.

Agreed. Personally, I think it sucks because UT, UGA, USC and others will come here once every 12 years. We kill of those games to preserve UF every year. Think back 6 years. For example we played UT in 2006 with JaMarcus, Bowe, Landry, etc. Under this format, this year would have been the first time we would have played them again. 6 years is a long time.
Assuming the math works, we should do what the Pac 12 does in that the 4 Cali teams play annually and the other 8 teams just play out of the division opponents with more frequency. Do that with UA/AU/UT/UGA so those teams miss out on the other rivalries.

That has been the biggest problem with discussing it over the last few years. I really tried to keep the discussion on topic. There is a better way AND a way for everyone to get what they want, you just have to be creative.

It may get us the benefit of doubt for the national scene, but it gets us nothing for the SEC championship scene. I, for one, don't think we have won enough SEC championships to be turn our collective noses up at the chance to win one.
For the foreseeable future, we will enter each season a half game behind Alabama in the SEC race.
Granted, if LSU had beaten Alabama, I think we would have had a more legitimate shot at the BCS Championship than Alabama currently has due to strength of schedule advantages.
Once again, the difficult schedule helps nationally, but not inside the SEC.

I think you clearly have to go 9 games. That would allow you to keep a permanent rival and still play two other cross-divisional games.
Also, it's really hard to realign the divisions, as it gets fuzzy on the borders, but how about a North/South split?
Mizzou
Tenn
Vandy
Alabama
Arkansas
Kentucky
Texas A&M
Florida
Georgia
Auburn
OM
MSU
USC
LSU
I really like the idea of going to 16 and coming up with 4-team pods that rotate which pod they are matched up with to create new divisions every 2 years.

I think once we expanded, the permanent opponent needed to go.
Wasn't it supposed to be replaced until the Gumps raised all kinds of sand about their "traditional" rivals? They HAD to play both Tennessee and Auburn, and couldn't live if they didn't.
