look at the great franchises/programs in pro/college sports. those fan bases demand excellence. if we want to be among them we should do no less.
By all means let us take a look. There are always and I mean ALWAYS going to be slack times, sonnyboy. Whether you want to admit it or not. No program is going to win every game every year and EVERY program is going to have bad years now and again. Keep some kind of perspective or you can remain stupid. Take your choice.

OK, moron, I knight thee King for a Day. What say ye? Issue some proclamations. How do we right this sinking ship? OK, I got it .. let's all of us (those who work) take off for a week and form a big ol' committee. We'll draft some sort of important document (akin to the Declaration of Independence) in which we'll declare our independence from mediocrity. (ignoring the fact that we might be jeopardizing our day jobs to pursue some totally meaningless effort to affect a football team of 18 to 21 year olds.)
OK, so you got our attention. We're awake! You said to wake up! We're awake! We stand ready for your direction. Guide us, great one!

Calm down Sonny. After watching live football games since the sixties and chanting with my father, 08, 58 and next year for forty years, we win two NC's in this decade.
No, I hate mediocrity. My definition is losing four to five games every year. That is mediocrity. Oh, and by the way, I sat through 53-3 losses till the end of the game to cheer my Tigers, because I love LSU, not just the NC pennants.
Was Fla. mediocre after winning a NC and losing four games with a Sophmore named Tebow? No, they learned and came back to win another.
Of course, not all the blame can be laid on Jefferson, but having Perilloux would have made a huge difference. We will be fine with Jefferson as he has had a huge lesson from Sat. Night.
This game will make him better against Fla. and Alabama. To rail that we should be better with the great recruiting years is as though you forgot that it is this coach that got the recruits. Miles worst area of coaching is game management, but I put his recruiting and ability to hire good assistants as his greatest strength and would take him over anyone for this.
We are number ten, with a chance to win out, play Fla. again in the SEC CG and you think we are mediocre?
You remind me of the old bull and the young bull on the hill, with the young bull saying, lets run down and get us a cow. The old bull said, "sonny, lets walk down and get them all."
You don't win an NC every year. Do me a favor. Go look at Nebraska's record in the nineties and compare it to this decade. Look at USC this decade and go back to the nineties to compare it. Look at Texas this decade and compare it to Texas of the mid eighties and nineties.
Sonny, let's walk down that hill......

Right on brother!
When you speak of old time Tiger fans versus newbies or bandwagoners, I believe it's a matter of perspective. A lot of the fans nowadays came on board in 2003 and became self-appointed die hards. These newbies, my ten year old son is one, have nothing but excellence to compare the current team to. Therefore, to them, anything less than perfection is unacceptable. Thus, a win is no longer good enough. We now concern ourselves with style points, when in the old days actual points on the scoreboard was all that mattered.
And, for any new fans who though us long-time Tiger fans accepted mediocrity, they should have been in Tiger Stadium during the "Help Mac Pack" campaign.

I would hope no generation of LSU fan feels 5-1 and 10th in the nation is "mediocre" . If so,that generation needs to follow a new team.

I have been going to LSU games since Bernie Moore was the coach and that "help Mac pack" horseshite was one of the most shameful episodes in LSU history.

It never ceases to amaze me that some of our fans can be so negative on the current coaching staff. No, the Tigers are not nearly perfect in how they play right now, but they are nearly perfect in their record. Right not we do not have a quarterback with enough experience or insight to lead the team to wins in a game like last night. The coaches can call exactly the right play and if the players don't execute, don't get out of the bad plays, don't see the opportunities that arise after the snap, then the play call really does not matter that much.
That blue team also brought some pretty good football players last night, and they had a lot to say about the outcome of that game - and yes, they were more experienced than the guys in gold helmets, to a large extent.
But think about this. At a time when the SEC is thought by most to be absolutely the strongest in CFB, the Tigers have been right at the top. Consistently. Only one miss in the last 5 years. In the strongest conference. With a NC to go with it.
I agree they have not looked sharp consistently this year - youth will do that, and youth is playing a large part in this team. I think we need to hang in there and let 'em play. I could nitpick too, but instead, I'll say

I like the way you think! Did you go see Pot Liquor at the Greek theatre back in '70?
