So what you are really telling us is everything that was great about college football has been ruined by NIL and the transfer portal. I would also add the playoff format.

College football has been ruined. It is an inferior pro system to the NFL. The relationship with the university is just bogus as they are not really students trying to set them self up for careers.

It's only eye-opening if you haven't been paying attention for the last 6 or 7 years.

Both of LSU’s Heisman winning QBs were transfers.

Jordan Travis was injured and the recruited Brock Glenn finished a miserable season in 2023.

FSU went 13-0 last year. They got a QB in transfer portal. How did that work out?

That QB was also a transfer in the 13-0 year

Totally agree. Also, to build and keep 4-5 year program players in the trenches will be important. 22 year old lineman are much stronger and better trained than a freshman or sophomore. You may not be able to keep 5 stars for that long, but solid 4 stars and 3 stars who develop as a team will deliver better line play and likely stick around for a degree.

WR, DB, and LB still require elite ball skills and speed so you need to recruit elite HS talent there.

RB is all about vision, blocking, and receiving (CEH) which as we’ve seen isn’t easily identified in high school. Hit on Durham but missed on Jackson.

You just can’t stack a roster with talent anymore and prevent others from getting that talent. At best you’re one or two deep with annual free agency and NIL.

as someone who was initially against the portal "to build", i have to say this is a good approach that i think LSU can be successful in.
