Lsu cannot compete nationally for high caliber players. The talent we have gotten in years past has been for the most part from Louisiana and many of them played on collis temple aau team.
Go and look at the talent we've had in the state for the last 2-3 years and let me know if TJ missed on anyone in the state who could have been a impact player. I think it's pretty outstanding that we were able to get ralston turner out of Alabama, stringer and o'bryant next year out of mississippi.
At least when Brady was here, there happened to be lots of talent in the state or tied to the state.

exactly. I can't think of any high caliber national guys that Trent has let get away. Monroe and Augustin were both guys that were recruited under Brady.

Have their been any high-caliber natty recruits out of LA the last 2 years? I can't think of any. The well has been dry for awhile.

no there weren't Monroe was probably the last one and Rico Gathers will be the next one close although he isn't on Bass/Davis/Mitchell territory nationally really.

And here is probably the major reason why LSU basketball is on the low side right now.

How is it that LA and so many other Southern states produce consistently the highest per capita phenoms in football and yet are so poor at producing basketball players compared to the NE?
Posted on 12/23/10 at 3:02 am to rpg37
guess its what they concentrate on in different areas of the country
out of all the people in the USA why can't we produce a consistent soccer program (to this point) when compared to Brazil? You get good at what kids play...

I assume the majority of top athletes in the state play football instead of basketball.
How many top football recruits do you see come out of the NE? Not as many as the south fo' sho.

Yeah, there's no way you've been involved at all with college basketball if you don't know this

Not one of these freshman is one and done talent, and if they leave after this year, they will not be drafted, look for all freshman on this team to return next season.
P.S. you obviously know very little about college bball if you see these guys as one and done players

One and done are you kidding me. Langston Gallaway had 27 the other night, he was right here in Baton Rouge last year, he has been the player of the week twice in his conference this year, he would easily be the best player on this team and we didn't even recruit him. The talent level on this team for a third year coach is terrible. What really concerns me is Storm Warren has gotten worse. I truly question TJ's ability to recruit talented players up to this point Ralston and Stringer look like the only 2 PLAYERS he has signed. It aint good

no
Thornton could fill it up, but he could also put it on the floor, and get to the rim and finish.

I always love how people speak about things they have absolutely no clue about.
Last years recruiting class was a building block. Everyone knew that, all of these kids were talented. But, that they were also raw.
Stringer for instance was a great scorer, but needed work being a true PG.
Turner was talented, but also needed work.
Derenbecker could probably use a redshirt, but we wouldn't have that luxury.
All of these idiotic responses need to be saved somewhere. In 2 years, it will be funny to look at them when these freshman are playing lights out and leading LSU to the NCAA Tourney. This year still has a ways to go, but appears to be a rough year. These kids are talented and WILL GET BETTER. And this entire team, for the most part, will be back with a year of playing together under their belt.

He went to play for his uncle. I guess Trent should have hired his uncle.

well, I was thinking more in terms of being a shooter with a quick release. But I've seen Turner take it to the basket a few times though its certainly something he could improve on

You know Marcus Thornton as a junior and senior. You have no idea what he was doing as an 18-year-old freshman at a Texas JUCO. You are comparing a finished product in Thornton to a freshman in Turner.
As my friend gotygers would say, that's "redeculous."
And other posters in this thread have hit the nail on the head. Louisiana basketball has sucked for the past three years. I see some light at the end of the tunnel for 2012, however.

I guess the lopez twins just committed to stanford w/o even being recruited by TJ. same with nick fazekas at nevada.
you sir, need to think less. it must hurt your poor head.

You mean you're not buying into the urban legend that the Lopez twins were Stanford fans and were going there anyway, so TJ gets no credit for them. However, Brady went through years of toil and trouble to land all of his Baton Rouge players. He gets full recruiting credit for them.
