I think he is partially right. He says fans should not worry. With this offense LSU needs more depth. Excellent analysis. Says LSU is definitely a playoff contender.

This is not the exact same O we will see in every game. At least not the 2nd half shootout. Once they get a lead in many of the upcoming games, you are gong to see more short stuff and run balance. That little bit of extra TOP and a little cooler temps will do wonders for the defense. We saw the worst case scenario on Saturday.

There was no excuse for not wrapping up on tackles in the 2nd half. None.

This. Most of them can’t be blamed on fatigue.

Didn’t seem to hurt Bama last year.

If the refs would have called the holding on their left tackle the game wouldn’t have been close

I looked at a few plays in the sugar bowl and Texas did not seem to be holding. I think they knew they had their hands full and just needed to see if they could get away with it. And they did.

LSU has elite talent on defense. It doesn't have elite depth. Until that happens, the defense can be had in games like this. It's the cost of having an offense that tries to score as quickly as it can.

We can argue elite or not, but this is the best depth LSU has had on defense since 2012, as least on the line and at LB. Safety is pretty good too. CB may be, depending on how Fulton bounces back and the young guys come along.

While there is some logic to that argument, it is unlikely that LSU will play any more games in heat indexes above 95.

I think the defense just had an off game. It happens. They may have bought a little too much into the hype. This will probably humble them a bit and they will come out swinging harder going forward.

Aranda needs to scheme up a goal of 3 stops per half. Def be more aggressive and go for broke. Knowing we're gonna score the ball.

I don't feel too worried about our D just yet. Remember what Dan Marino said: "There's no defense against a perfect pass"

Ehlinger was throwing darts on saturday and was absolutely deadly on 3rd and 4th down. Not to mention several of their receivers are 6'5+. Just have to tip your hat and be glad our guys were able to outscore them.

Just look at the NFL. Even the most elite defenses in the league get lit up for 40+ points when they face a top QB.

The 19 play drive to start the second half changed everything as well. That is a ridiculously long drive and really there is no excuse for it. You have to get them off the field.

I think the back to back goal line stands had a bigger effect.

Texas ran over 80 plays where in previous years the defense was only asked to defend for 50-60 plays.

that is the thing. When the defense starts playing a little better the opponent isn't going to run 80 plays. It wasn't the type offense we were running that got them those 80 plays. It was that our defense couldn't stop them.

randa might HAVE to get more aggressive to try and get off the field. Giving up a long TD might actually be the better result than giving up a long drive.

I agree with this, that 19 play drive looking back at it could very likely been best if we just gave up a touchdown earlier and not worn our guys out. After that possession is when the defensive performance went down hill
